The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.

This popped up in my Facebook memories, it is inscribed in granite in front of the Rockefeller Center in NYC. I hope some NYC voters read it and are inspired!
J.D. Rockefeller’s 10 Beliefs are INSIGHTFUL! May God help us bring “life to the fullest” to all places on earth!
I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.
I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master.
I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living.
I believe that thrift is essential to well ordered living and that economy is a prime requisite of a sound financial structure, whether in government, business or personal affairs.
I believe that truth and justice are fundamental to an enduring social order.
I believe in the sacredness of a promise, that a man’s word should be as good as his bond; that character — not wealth or power or position — is of supreme worth.
I believe that the rendering of useful service is the common duty of mankind and that only in the purifying fire of sacrifice is the dross of selfishness consumed and the greatness of the human soul set free.
I believe in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name, and that the individual’s highest fulfillment, greatest happiness, and widest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with His will.
I believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that it alone can overcome hate; that right can and will triumph over might.

249 years….
Thanks to President Trump I’m confident we’ll make it to 250….and possibly far beyond that!
Happy No Kings Day!
(The real version)
The 4th has always been a special day for me, understanding and appreciating that the greatest nation in history was not born from happenstance, coincidence, or capricious random events, but more a concerted effort by dedicated, selfless, God-fearing men to create that which, until then, only rested in the imagination of great men, a nation self-ruled, othering equality, opportunity, and liberty for all men. A concept so novel and liberating that many men sacrificed everything, their lives, fortunes, and families to see it to fruition. And given the odds, the deprivation of the army, and the string of events that, time and time again, saved said army and the cause by which they fought, to deny divine intervention seems ridiculous.
And the simple fact that our president loves this country as much as I do makes it all the more special.
We went to the grocery store this morning decked out in flag apparel, and I wore my 45/47 hat. Place was loaded with “come heres”, mostly Democrats from Richmond, Fredericksburg and Maryland. Nobody dared say a word.
They’re lucky they didn’t.
The only guy that seemed happy was a Puerto Rican guy, probably came here legit, he wished us a happy 4th. I know quite a few of them who are very pro-America.
One of the best 4th of July’s in 1974 for me was when the Kitty Hawk was coming home from Pearl Harbor to San Diego after an 8-month West Pac deployment. On the 4th the ship had an outdoor barbecue for the whole crew both the ship’s company and the air wing up on the flight deck. It was a great day.
“The date will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.” – John Adams
The United States of America – the best country in all of human history. And the most beautiful hunk of real estate on the planet. Not small like the UK, not a hot wasteland like most of Australia, not unbearable cold like most of Canada, not a huge hostile jungle like most of Brazil, etc. America is vast and beautiful, and the majority of it is livable.
Happy Birthday Greetings to this awesome county and to all its people. And Thanks to God for the people who created it and serve it and defend it.
Next year 2026 is the 250th anniversary of our founding. Party on folks.

About a decade later I had a Pearl Harbor experience.
I was going through Oahu and got bumped off the full flight as I was the lowest priority pax but did have an official ticket.
It was also the last flight out until the next night. They had to put me up in a room somewhere for 2 days since it crossed over check out times for room guests. However, most of the rooms were full because of holiday travel so they put me in a room that if I was paying out of my pocket would have been not happening. The room had a view that was impressive and I couldn’t have been happier to get the fridge benefits.

Aardvark,
You and Uncle Al are always an awesome read.
Have a KICK ASS WEEKEND!
Here’s how we celebrate in the Shenandoah Valley: “Happy Birthday America” annual event, started by native sons, the Statler Brothers in 1970. Still going strong, with parade, concert, beauty pageant, and fireworks. Free. It used to more than double the population of the town, back when the Statlers were performing; still a major event, with the second generation of homegrown musicians and their Nashville friends entertaining the crowd of liberty loving patriots.

Definitely still a bigger draw than the No Kings event downtown recently, attended by aging yankee hippies and a few Goth chicks from the local wimmins college. Winning!
