If you’ve watched “We Were Soldiers” you saw about half the battle of Ia Drang valley, Landing Zone X-Ray, that began on November 14th. There was a second engagement that followed, at Landing Zone Albany, that didn’t go as well for elements of the 7th Cavalry.
Military History Online
During the Vietnam War, the United States (U.S.) forces launched a bold mission in the contested region called the Ia Drang Valley.[1] Considered for many as the first major battle during the war between the U.S. Army and the North Vietnamese Army (NVA), both sides showed the importance of tactics, key equipment, and capabilities to overcome an enemy in severely restricted terrain. The Battle of Ia Drang brought a clash to the confidence of U.S. Soldiers, who possessed effective fire support and close air support during operations, against a trained indigenous enemy who knew very well the terrain and was acclimatized to the weather in that region. Good movie, haven’t seen it in a while.
Mel Gibson has always been one of the more enigmatic figures in Hollywood. At times, subordinate to his own personal demons (most of the more interesting figures in History have been), much like George Patton, he would be the first to recognize the limitations placed on him, the harm of his own making.
I missed the Vietnam War draft by a few years, and thank God for that. Personally, I think the Vietnam War, as horrible as it was, was a more moral endeavor, based on our intentions and the prevailing mindset at the time, than the Iraq War. And as such, my animus for Nixon and Johnson pales in comparison to Bush/Cheney.
This is history worth remembering from that war.
Our men never had a chance in Vietnam. That crooked pos lyndon johnson half-assed the war effort, and even hired a car industry hack (mcnemara) to run it. Whether we should have been there is one thing. But going in and by ineptitude sacrificing the lives of so many, and in vain.
Lets not forget that asshole Cronkite who was in love with hearing his own voice announce the we had lost the war after TET 68! Our government and commie media lost the war…not us!
” Ia Drang valley”
If memory serves the Soviets got their asses handed to them there and so did the French.
Too bad humans can’t learn from mistakes for very long and keep going down the same roads over and over.
Can’t find any history of the Russians there
Yeah, McNamara was a piece of work along with Johnson.
They both should’ve made prison or worse.
They needed more warm bodies so they got very low IQ retarded and sent them. People learned very fast not to let them carry a rifle. I can’t imagine being there and seeing the way they were treated and after they came home.
And the insane rules of engagement.
The Russians got their asses kicked in Afghanistan and the French in Vietnam.
The Chinese were also roughly handled after the Vietnam War ended.
how lose a war: r. s. crap-namara & l. blow-job determining restrictions/roe & targeting
how to reduce your life span: follow the multi-step lawyer de-escalation process while a ****** tries to kill you
Doc – We always called him Walter Crotchbite…
McNamara was Jack Kennedy’s man, as was Dean Rusk SOS, and the rest of the rocket scientists that had no idea of what they were doing.
“Our government and commie media lost the war…not us!”.
The man who really won the war wasn’t Giap, but Yuri Andropov, head of the KGB. It’s no coinkydink all those radical movements – Black Power, feminism, La Raza, Gay Pride, the hippies, and the Lefty takeover of the media. He created so much division at home, our guys couldn’t do their job and every time we met the Commies, we slaughtered them.
Andropov created any number of 5th columns inside this country and their grandchildren are just as stupid, if not more so.
I love seeing some of these oldsters with TDS foaming at the mouth how the younger generation has no guts. They destroyed Johnson (love him or hate him) and can’t understand why the same can’t be done to Trump.
s/b Black Power, feminism, La Raza, Gay Pride, the hippies, teacher unions, student radicals, and the Lefty takeover of the media all happened at the exact same time. Most of the founders were avowed Communists – Betty Friedan, Albert Shanker, Stokely Carmichael, Dr Spock, etc.
