Governor Abbott, whatever you think about him, is right on both counts. Democrats are selling their own brand of toxic hate in the streets and in the nation’s capital, but sensible citizens aren’t buying. We’re talking about real, visceral hate here. Not dislike or disapproval, but active hate democrats have become so good at. Generally, when people talk about hate, they mean dislike. If someone says they hate broccoli, they usually mean they dislike it and do not want to eat it. They see broccoli, they leave it on their plate, and forget about it. They do not obsess over broccoli, keeping their hatred for it burning in their minds 24/7.
Real hate is an active emotion, one whose energy consumes those engaging in it. It is the type of thing that leads individuals to obsess over the object of their hatred. Eventually, if kept up long enough, it consumes the hater. We see it here among most Never-Trumpers and the vicious anti-Israel crowd. It leads to compulsive behavior, like daily anti-Trump screeds over trivial (and occasionally nonexistent) failings puffed up to DefCon 1 status. It is an energy sink. It is tedious and boring. Everyone else either tunes it out or points and laughs. more here
I think it is pretty much unanimous here that TESLA is the toxi brand. Nobody on this site would be caught dead driving one.

Tesla sideswipes aside (this thread is not about Tesla and the righteous work undertaken at no expense to taxpayers by Elon Musk), I whole-heartedly agree with the linked essay. There are only two points I disagree with or I think need a stronger emphasis.
The first is that the Democrats’ tantrums over perceived wrongs are almost always (rather than “occasionally”) made up of whole cloth, and not only are their messages of “hope” completely dead, they confuse the substance of their hope with unicorn farts. The country — at least those who are serious about such things — are full up on unicorn farts and have realized that unicorns’ flatulence smells pretty much like the regular stuff.
Leftists have nothing to sell but hate. What leftists want is power; as a general rule I cannot see where any leftist really wants to help anyone. Is unfettered immigration helping any of our disadvantaged classes with jobs and opportunity? Is objecting to continued government waste really a worthwhile thing to the American taxpayer? Is continued participation in the Russia-Ukraine war in our best interests? Is catering to foreign nations who do not like the US good us? Is agitating for the “right” to mutilate children in the name of “gender affirming care” – especially when the number of gender-confused people is tiny – a winning issue? No, but to a leftist that is not the point; the point is to have an issue where they can violate the rules of a civilized society through hate and terror in order to gain power.
If the left ever regains power, their hate will not cease – a historical principle that has been proven over and over again. Russia under Lenin and then Stalin. China under Mao. Cuba under Castro. Leftist hate and terror not only continued, but increased once the left obtained power. The left has never really cared about minorities, the poor, the disadvantaged or the homeless; these are merely circumstances which justified hate and therefore lawless violence in an effort to gain power.
I spent 40 years in California arguing with leftists. If you really want to frustrate them, ask what, specifically, they propose to do about the issues they pretend to care about. They have no solutions except to grant the government more power and elect leftists. But more power to do what? Again, there are no solutions offered or if “solutions” are offered, they are meaningless and mindless things like banning backyard barbeques and gas-powered leaf blowers in order to combat climate change.
We can argue about whether or not EVs are actually good for the environment, but the fact remains that Tesla makes a damn fine EV if that is what you are into. But to a leftist that is not the issue; the issue is that Elon Musk is instrumental in identifying government waste and therefore Teslas must be vandalized and Tesla owners punished. That’s just hate and violence for no reason other than an attempt to gain power.

I suggested to one that he put a Trump/MAGA bumper sticker on it and hide in the bushes with a riot gun. He bought it for his kid and said that he already had to lock his Newhouse No 6 in the safe after catching the kids reckless eyeballing it.
