New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is blasting party leaders for having supported moderate Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar’s reelection bid Tuesday, calling their backing “an utter failure of leadership.”
Cuellar, the House’s lone anti-abortion Democrat, on Thursday appeared to be on the verge of winning his primary in a very close race against progressive challenger Jessica Cisneros.
“On the day of a mass shooting and weeks after news of Roe, Democratic Party leadership rallied for a pro-NRA, anti-choice incumbent under investigation in a close primary,” Ocasio-Cortez, among Congress’ most progressive members, tweeted Tuesday. “Robocalls, fundraisers, all of it. Accountability isn’t partisan. This was an utter failure of leadership.”
