The British spy who compiled the debunked ‘Trump Dossier’ has revealed the sources behind the document to the FBI, naming names to federal investigators who are probing Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the shady report.
According to ABC News, people close to the investigation have learned that Christopher Steele, the MI6 operative who created the dossier has handed over his sources to FBI agents investigating the document.
The news comes a day after Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee over his firm’s role in compiling the anti-Trump report.
The infamous dossier, most of which has been discredited or is not taken seriously, formed the basis for the initial accusations the Trump campaign worked with Russian officials to interfere with the 2016 presidential race.
“We will also pursue details about Mr. Simpson’s role in this event and the creation and circulation of the dossier that started this whole controversy,” Grassley said last month.
The President has categorically denied any accusations included in the report, calling the dossier “phony stuff.”
“It’s all fake news. It’s phony stuff. It didn’t happen,” said the President “And it was gotten by opponents of ours, as you know, because you reported it and so did many of the other people. It was a group of opponents that got together — sick people — and they put that crap together.”
