There was a time when Levi’s were all the fashion, the rougher looking the better. But this is the 2020s and it’s Carhartt’s turn to take the fashion world by storm. Think I’m joking? Just watch this. Here

That assumption is 30 years behind the times. I have a Carhartt canvas shirt with a flannel plaid liner, and if I washed it, it would probably disintegrate! LOL! So comfortable!
I ruined many Carhartt items working in the Northern Michigan Timber industry many years ago.
Lots of dead of winter (because that’s when things decide to break for some reason) hydraulic hose repairs and such. I can get out grease and oil but hydraulic or transmission fluids and you’re done. Was mostly bibs and overcoats and you’d wear them until they started to bleed through and hit your undergarments then you’d have a fire and go shopping.
I worked for an industrial gas and welding supply company for the last 20 years of my career, with the last 13 years of that time, as the operator of their liquid propane rail car terminal. I also pursued the hobby of blacksmithing and Carhartt gear was THE choice for my work wear. Even though I’m retired now, I still prefer Carhartt clothing.
Kids today who want the look without doing the pushups need a blanket party.
They fired people for not taking the shot. Threw all their shit out.
I’ve got one of their flame resistant winter coats. It’s OK, but nothing special.
Won’t pay Carhartt’s prices any more. They’re chasing fashion and I’m chasing quality work duds. I started buying Dickies brand T’s for Geoff C. and I wear their bibs for my job. For serious outdoor, non-work gear Filsson is the way to go. Spendy, but tough as nails and heirloom quality.
A good place to find very usable work duds is Goodwill. I used to get bibs there all the time, but now they’re a fashion thing, too, and I can never find them there.
I do have to chuckle over the younger set out-fitted in Carhartt, who don’t know how to use a shovel — and never want to learn.
GREAT VIDEO
It Reminds me of the Beard Grooming Shops a few years ago with the hipsters.
Frankly, I have NEVER even bought Carhartt’s stuff because Lennox, Carrier, United Refrigeration, Klein, all give me TONS of FREE sweaters, Tee’s, Vests & Hats etc.
Plus, way too trendy & $$$ when a basic pair of cargo pants are half the Cash.
I have a jacket but the proportions are off, the sleeves are too long and the length is too short letting in cold air.
^^^^^^ Sounds like your some sort of mutant. Lol
I ‘ve been wearing Carhartt jeans since before they were cool. Their quality has dropped way off. Ironically a couple years ago I was in a western wear store and stumbled on some Levi’s 501. The old button fly I wore in high school. They wear like iron. Despite their political views I love them.
PS, I wear the exact same size I did in high school
My “uniform” is Carhartt pocket T, wife beater in the warm months, either T or three button T the rest of the year but sometimes the season doesn’t matter to me. Indian print “board shorts” and Red Wing Romeos or fifteen year old Keen sandals. The Indian print board shorts my kids pick out at Indian Relay. I pick up a half dozen Carhartts at North 40 when I’m in central Washington or Montana and I just have my Romeos resoled every once in a while. The Keen last was changed about ten years ago and I have a half dozen pair in various states of coming apart. The Keens are garbage when I’m done with them.
I have friends and relatives try and finagle my old Carhartt jackets from me. I have a dozen or so that look like they have been through a war. They don’t fit, but my kids want them.
I use Key Brand overalls now and hickory shirts to work in the yard in bad weather. Doggone kids friends want the old hickory shirts now too. Hickory shirts are striped like pillow ticking in case you are not familiar.
When I had to go into Seattle for work meetings 25 years ago there was some stupid movie on television every week that they shot up in Roslyn and every one of the hipsters would show up kitted out like they were ready to scale the Matterhorn in garb they bought from CC Filson. I used to trade with Filson when they were in the Maritime Building, my mother still went up to their shop by the King Dome and I went with her sometimes. Their prices went through the roof about twenty five or thirty years ago. I don’t know if they still have women sewing in Seattle or not.
Why do Muzzies wear 501s?
because goats run when they hear a zipper
Bought my first Carhartt heavy coat in 90, shrunk 4 sizes until I gave it to a much smaller apprentice in 2000 who only had a sarape to keep warm. They weren’t cheap but they lasted.
@ JDHasty Thanks for the link.
Won’t buy Carhartts any more. They went “woke” and “covid” several years back.
Love Charlie Berens’ stuff.
One of my boys does heavy work. He’s skinny as a rail and Carhart is the only work gear that comes in a 28 waist.
Holds up well too.
Remember when Timberlands were outdoor and work boots? Then they went Urban Sike. They quit making anything I had ever used and started catering to their new clientele whose only work was dealing dope in Detroit. I see a pattern here: First the workers make you famous. Then the Hipsters make you cool. Then the bums finish you off.
Lance o lot,
that is genius poetic.
I remember when Eddie Bauer was sewn in Auburn and it was an expedition outfitter. It’s all crap now. By the way, he was a nice guy.
