Catholic Church Has Internal ‘Guidelines’ On How To Handle Priests Who Father Children

DC:

The Catholic Church officially recognized that it has internal guidelines in place governing procedures when clerics father children, The New York Times reports.

The admission may be the first of its kind and comes days before the Vatican hosts a meeting with bishops from around the world on child sexual abuse within the church.

“I can confirm that these guidelines exist,” Vatican spokesman Alessandro Gisotti told TheNYT in a statement. “It is an internal document.”

The guidelines’ “fundamental principle” is the “protection of the child.” It “requests” that the cleric who fathers a child leave the priesthood to “assume his responsibilities as a parent by devoting himself exclusively to the child,” Gisotti said.

The “request” is a formality, Monsignor Andrea Ripa, the under-secretary in the Congregation for the Clergy, told TheNYT. Mandating the cleric leave the priesthood is impossible, but “if you don’t ask, you will be dismissed.”  more here

  1. Let’s see the internal guidelines on How-to handle priest that molest children, too. I’m pretty sure they also exist as it seems to happen more often than the fathering of children.

  3. 1. Peter had a wife.

    2. 1 Timothy 4:3:

“Forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”

Which institution does this sound like?

Apart from the leftist sodomites who have infiltrated and corrupted all institutions, had Catholic priests and nuns been allowed to marry, as God’s
word says not to forbid (along with eating meat), most of this centuries long wickedness would never have happened. Just think of all the men and women cheated and forced under a loathsome burden by Rome, one which Christ never intended.

  5. With all due respect to everyone’s opinions, guessing that none of you belong to the One True Church. The Church is Perfect, its people are not. In the Perfect World, we know that priests/nuns take their vows to the One True Roman Catholic Church. BTW, it’s been around & struggled for 2k yrs.

  6. The whole celibate priest thing is abnormal.

When God created women he told man to make wives of them (Genesis 2:24 among others).

The Catholics decided they knew better.

We see the results of that decision in the daily news and it isn’t pretty.

So, maybe God actually did know what is best for man.

    8
  7. Being celibate is abnormal…. man was not supposed to live alone or be alone. Always leads to extreme temptations (homosexuality, pedophilia, adultery with other married women), for the things that we are forbidden to have. Once the forbidden aspect is removed, then normalcy can prevail.

Also, how can priests or nuns guide their parishioners on marriage counseling or parenting if they have no experience with it? Book-learning about it just doesn’t do the job.

Look at the Islam world where they put women behind veils, behind burkas… rampant pedophilia and sex slavery ensues because normal relations with women is off-limits.

  8. I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own special gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.
To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is well for them to remain single as I do. (1 Corinthians 7:7-8 RSV)

“For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it.” (Matthew 19:12 RSV)

Now concerning the unmarried, I have no command of the Lord [i.e., the Lord has not spoken directly on this] but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. I think that in view of the impending distress it is well for a person to remain as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek marriage. (1 Corinthians 7:25-27 RSV)

I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married man is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried woman or girl is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit; but the married woman is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please her husband. (1 Corinthians 7:32-34 RSV)

If any one thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry — it is no sin. But whoever is firmly established in his heart, being under no necessity but having his desire under control, and has determined this in his heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well. So that he who marries his betrothed does well; and he who refrains from marriage will do better. (1 Corinthians 7:36-38 RSV)

  9. Unless the guidelines are:

    1) Defrock
    2) Charge them for the private school Phd that they got from you
    3) Kick their ass

    then it’s probably not workable.

  10. The Church made Priests celibate to prevent divorce laws from giving away Church Property to aggrieved ex-wives. So even then it was about money.
Command priests to marry and have families so they can participate in the fullness of the world.
    Pedophiles need to be killed.
    Preferably by bears
    Or by the Brazen Bull

  11. References to the unmarried in the New Testament say NOTHING about their having been commanded by some ecclesiarchy to never marry in the first place, because they weren’t so commanded. That God would expect some to somehow remain holier than everyone else by remaining celibate and unmarried is a wicked lie of Satan, and is exactly the destructive self-righteousness Paul warned Timothy against.

As for “the one true church,” there is only one church of God today but it is no human institution. It is the organic Body of Christ, made up of all believers of the Gospel of the grace of God (which Rome cursed at the council of Trent).

That there are internal guidelines on how to handle priests who father children is a not a revelation.

  14. Is this not your statement: “had Catholic priests and nuns been allowed to marry, as God’s
word says not to forbid (along with eating meat), most of this centuries long wickedness would never have happened.”

I would call that a response to the allegation, not bashing. I could also have noted sexual perversion in schools, government and every single human institution on Gods green earth, its called sin, but I chose the Baptists because that is the most recent revelation that I remembered and it was particularly appropriate to this discussion.

I was also wondering if you think God expected Jesus to remain celibate and unmarried? Or did Jesus defy God? Was Jesus following a wicked lie of satan by remaining celibate and unmarried?

    2
  15. “The Baptists aren’t the issue here” Is very correct, the only Christians bashed on IOTW are Catholic, but that’s ok by me.

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.”

    2
  16. “the only Christians bashed on IOTW are Catholic, but that’s ok by me.”

As Trump would say, WRONG! I do recall Mormons getting trashed, Lutherans getting trashed, Jehovas and Methodists, too. Now we have Baptists who messed up along with Catholics. Only difference is it seems it was more difficult to keep track of the Catholic priests (And Nuns) who were dirty, and because of that, criminals were easily able to ‘hide out’ and continue their business.

Simple solution, get rid of the freaks.

    2
  17. “I was also wondering if you think God expected Jesus to remain celibate and unmarried? Or did Jesus defy God? Was Jesus following a wicked lie of satan by remaining celibate and unmarried?”

None of us is God in the flesh and so without sin, as Christ was and is. You are a blasphemous idiot for even trying to draw that comparison.

  18. Face it, a lot of these religions have become social justice centers.
Social justice warriors are never wrong. Ask them, they’ll tell you.

    Edit:
If you’re wondering why there are a lot of Catholic related stories posted lately, it’s because of the current Pope.
He’s a jerk and I don’t know of one Catholic (Roman or otherwise) who doesn’t think he’s a socialist tool.
PLUS even his own Bishops and priests are fighting him. That’s news.

    4
  19. There is no agenda at iOTW against Catholicism.
    For the record, I’m Catholic.

The takeaway for me, with this story, is that I’m surprised the Church has provisions to go after deadbeat dad priests. Interesting.

So, it’s straight males that are not tolerated, the gay priests are protected.
    Got it.

  20. Grool, you make my day! Issue is the “revelation” that there are internal guidelines in the Catholic Church to address priests who father children.
    I addressed, previous post.
“That there are internal guidelines on how to handle priests who father children is a not a revelation.
    https://www.irishcatholic.com/when-a-priest-fathers-a-child/ (2016)
    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2012/jan/06/vatican-gabino-zavala-fathers (2012)
Current Code of Cannon Law was updated in 1983 and is the basis for guidelines of the Church.”

You my friend Grool have not addressed the issue, instead you start dishing the same bullshit you always dish.

MJA, I would encourage you to do a search of IOTW with Baptist, Methodist, Lutherans looking for articles critical of the “faithful” or “ministers”. Particularly look at the search results to find stand alone articles critical of these faith traditions, and not part of the collateral damage from a liberal politician. ex: Methodists are frequently mentioned because Clintons are Methodist. You will find next to nothing.

Getting rid of freaks is an interesting statement because that’s kind of who Jesus came for isn’t it?

Mormans and JW are strictly speaking not Christian. JW deny the divinity of Jesus, Mormans hold that the Son’s pre-existence was only as vague, unformed matter until his heavenly parents begot his spirit.
Both beliefs, like me, are Blasphemous!

    3
  21. “Mormans and JW are strictly speaking not Christian.”

According to YOUR belief. But if you ask them, they’ll beg to differ.
See? That’s how it works. Separate beliefs and traditions. Different angels, different saints according to your customs, where you grew up, etc. But what’s in common, is GOD.

“That there are internal guidelines on how to handle priests who father children is a not a revelation.”

So, what? A handful of people know that but a lot of others didn’t. So I can’t post a story about it so that others know?

Again. The reason why we have a lot of stories on Catholics is because of the Pope. I’m not going to avoid stories because somebody on this blog could be sensitive. And you can always find people in the comments trashing any religion at any time. Regardless of the topic, just as you did with Mormons and Jehovas Witness just now.

Oh btw, “The Freaks” I’m referring to are the criminals. If you didn’t understand what I meant. I highly doubt Jesus would want to have them hanging around children to injure them. Do you? What happens to the criminals after death is His business. What we do with them, physically, on Earth is ours. (jail, restraining orders, etc.)

“When there is a conservative pope, the liberal websites discovered that the Catholic Church is full of sinners.
Now that we have a liberal pope, the conservative websites can make that same discovery.”

I don’t give a shit. If wrong is happening, I’m posting it.

I’m not going to explain, again and again and again, why I’m posting news stories. I’m not going to be ‘smugged’ into not posting stories.

    *Vegas hands*

  22. If I ever come across someone criticizing The Church for the clerical celibacy in The Church who had the slightest notion of the historical events leading up to how it came to be… it will be a first. In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny: What a bunch of maroons

    2
  23. No, the reason why we have a lot of stories on Catholics is because of the diabolical narcissism that practically defines those who have usurped leadership of The Church. The despicable piece of Marxist shit, worthless cocksucker of an antipope is just a symptom of a terrible disease that infects The Church.

    4
  24. MJA, I don’t plan on being silenced or shamed either. I assume that is what smugged means. If this platform isn’t for the free exchange of ideas let me know and I will exit.

  25. “You my friend Grool have not addressed the issue, instead you start dishing the same bullshit you always dish.”

    Listen and listen good.

    First, I’m not your friend.

Second, I quoted Paul, God’s chosen apostle to the Gentiles (that’s us), who warned of enemies of the Cross who would forbid both marriage and meat under the pretense of false holiness.

THAT’S YOUR BELOVED CHURCH DOING THAT, FRANK, long before your current commie pope was even born.

But you conveniently ignored that Scripture citation, so I must assume you believe the inspired, prophetic word of God Himself is bullshit.

So, Frank, you can go to Hell.
