Pluralist: Internal communications between Chicago State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and her staff show the prosecutor considered Jussie Smollett’s alleged hate crime hoax a “distraction,” according to documents obtained by a Chicago news outlet as part of a Freedom of Information Act request.
CWBChicago sifted through 4,000 pages of emails and text messages between Foxx and staff.
According to CWB Chicago, the new information suggests prosecutors suddenly dropped charges against Smollett in March of last year because Foxx was more concerned with going after R. Kelly, an R&B singer accused of sexually abusing underage girls.
In the weeks before and after Smollett reported an alleged hate crime attack in late January, a chat group used by Foxx and senior staff members to communicate and discuss priorities was dominated by links to media coverage of Foxx’s efforts to build a case against R. Kelly. read more
