A court on Monday in Oklahoma sentenced the serial bank robber to a 32-year term in state prison that will run concurrently with his federal sentence of 17½ years.   1. First thing: this is a bad guy and deserves to spend serious time in the pen.

    But I’ve always held that trying someone in both feddle and state courts for the same criminal act(s) is double jeopardy: punished twice for the same crime. Tacking the state sentence onto the feddle sentence is just plain unconstitutional. Yah, yah, SCOTUS disagrees. They’re wrong.

Well, in the ‘justice’ vein with Uncle Al, I think it worthy of note that a person who jacked the financial system for a middling small amount while threatening people gets a 30 plus while murdering a girl might net the illegal (or legal) a 10 or less. Some of these murders net 5 or less. It seems clear the system is FAR more interested in preventing theft from its financial end than it is the lives and wellbeing of the people. Bring back the death penalty on the high end, prosecute the low end like you mean it and prosecute violence against persons at least as harshly as crimes against financial institutions.
