Did he keep that fish or let it go after he showed it to his kids. I hope that he let it go just because it’s the right thing to do.

I don’t think it’s real. Are you telling me some guy dives in a lake and gets a fish? When dad brings it up and ashore it isn’t even moving. The fish is dead. If you look carefully the surface of the water subtly changes shortly after dad jumps in. It’s somehow spliced.

Looks like a sucker, also known as redhorse. I wouldn’t mount the thing, maybe pickle it.
When I was a kid we would spear those things coming up the creek at night in the spring. They don’t run like that anymore.
The only fish you’re allowed in this state to hand catch.
Looked like a big female. Not sure why she was so easy to catch, usually they put up more of a fight.

Could be that it was was completely played out. We used to catch steelhead from a high bridge and would play them out, then drop a net with rope down and haul them up. You could get down to the water, but it took half an hour. It was easier to just completely exhaust them.

JDHasty,
That was my thought, too. One time I caught a carp and it fought pretty hard until I finally got it to shore. Then it just laid there as I picked it up. No flopping; nothing.
Gave it to the cats and dogs since they are such nasty fish.

Good job Dad.
Mom, do something other than just stand there.
