David Horowitz has Died

Front Page: On behalf of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, we are very saddened to announce the passing of the Center’s founder, David Horowitz. After a lengthy battle with cancer, David passed yesterday at the age of 86.

The Freedom Center’s founder and guiding force was a relentless conservative warrior who survived a previous brush with death (chronicled in his book Mortality and Faith), confrontations with the Black Panthers, campus radicals, government investigations, death threats, and hate campaigns, some led by his former friends and allies, without ever considering giving up or letting up. Nothing short of the end that comes for us all could silence his voice. He continued writing, working, and steering the Center to the very last; his final article, “The Biggest Lie of All,” appeared earlier this month.

Although he was a giant in the conservative liberty movement for over 40 years, David was raised a Marxist and was one of the leading intellectuals of the New Left movement at Berkeley in the 1960’s. But David, along with his writing partner and Freedom Center co-founder Peter Collier, eventually had a political epiphany and joined the side of freedom in the early 1980‘s. They committed the second half of their lives and work warning Americans of the dangers of the Progressives whose intellectual roots and totalitarian aims they understood better than many Leftists themselves. more here

  1. He was a valuable voice for conservatism. He had lived as a leftist so he had a deep understanding of what drives leftism and he could expose things others were unaware of. He’ll be missed.

  2. David Horowitz was a man of exceptional depth and it was always a joy to listen to him. He had a unique, hard-hitting thought process combined with an uncommon amount of heart which made him surprisingly vulnerable. Sometimes I think he even surprised himself.

When his book, “Dark Agenda: The War to Destroy Christian America”, came out, I think it was interview with Eric Metaxas where I think it was becoming really plain David was searching and finding answers about Jesus Christ. I was hoping to hear him talk about his conversion, but it was shortly after that, that he was really struggling to speak clearly through the raspiness in his voice. I’ve not seen an interview or presentation by him since that time.

I’m sad he’s not among us. He’s one I will be looking for in Heaven.

RIP David Horowitz. God bless you.

  3. BENITO!! HE SAID THAT THE TURNING POINT FOR LEAVING THE LEFT BEHIND WAS WHEN THE BLACK PANTHERS KILLED THE WOMAN (BOOK KEEPER) HE WORKED WITH WHO WAS SUPPORTING THE PARTY. THEY FOUND HER BODY (OR PART OF IT) IN THE BAY (IF I’M REMEMBERING THE STORY RIGHT). HE SAID IT WAS THEN HE REALIZED THE LEFT DIDN’T REALLY BELIEVE IN THEIR OWN STUFF. DECADES LATER HE STILL TEARED UP TALKING ABOUT IT. HE CARRIED A LOT OF GUILT FEELINGS ABOUT HIS PART IN THAT MOVEMENT. THAT’S WHAT MAKE HIM SUCH A WARRIOR FOR CONSERVATISM.

  4. A genuine, loyal member of the conservative movement. He was there during the Marxist cultural conversion of Western society in the 50s and 60s. He lived to experience being a true counter-culture icon of the right. He’ll be missed. Hope he accepted Christ as Savior and Lord before he passed.

  5. A righteous and good man.
My sister is friends with his niece. His niece was one of my dad’s caregivers. She was such a blessing to our family.
God bless the family during this difficult time.

  6. This makes me very sad. His book, Radical Son, made me realize my insights into the lefty politics and organizations I was raised with were actually an asset in forming my conservative political beliefs. I have seen too many useful idiots with ‘good intentions’ used by devious power brokers to create chaos in society and their personal lives. David Horowitz put his personal story out there to shine light on the lies and collateral damage of the left and never gave up calling out their fake virtue. I admired his intellect, his courage, and his stamina.
