@Brad — I don’t remember anything about Rwanda and white farmers, and a quick search came up empty.
But in the early 2000s, Zimbabwe confiscated all the white farmers’ lands with the expected bad results. Current Zimbabwe govt is grudgingly trying to lure some of the original land owners back with a compensation scheme but it doesn’t look very successful. Surprise, surprise.

Some years ago, some SA farmers moved to central Mississippi and took over farms abandoned as in profitable failures by black farmers. They miraculously turned them profitable in months through hard work and a hard-won knowledge of farming.
In reply to Uncle Al – a neighbour of my sister had a great story to tell me. His son, an electrical engineer, and his wife were invited to Zimbabwe to help re-develop the electrical grid. He was promised a lot of money, but had the foresight to have open ended air tickets to return to Canada, should something go wrong with payment. It only took 4 weeks of not being paid, for the airline tickets to be activated. He was only giving the initial deposit payment and ended up working the last 2 weeks for free (no pay cheques). I no longer care about Africa.
