Department of Transportation Lays the Groundwork to Scrap Gavin’s High-Speed Dream

Transportation.gov –

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy today released the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Compliance Review Report finding that the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA)’s high speed rail project is in default of the terms of its federal grant awards. The detailed report, which is over 300 pages, contains 9 key findings including missed deadlines, budget shortfalls, and overrepresentation of projected ridership. The two grants total roughly $4 billion in taxpayer money. As the letter notes, CHSRA has up to 37 days to respond, after which the grants could be terminated.

In a letter to CHSRA’s CEO, Ian Choudri, the FRA noted its report identified a trail of project delays, mismanagement, waste, and skyrocketing costs. The project has received approximately $6.9 billion in federal dollars in roughly fifteen years but has not laid a single high-speed track. Even with continued federal support, the project is far short of the funding needed to finish just a fraction of the track. More

  1. Okay, then. So, where did all the money go? To who? Who has purchased a boat load of homes and massive amounts of luxury goods since this all started? If the feds are at all serious about the mismanagement charge they better go after the “mismanagers”. $6.9 billion is a lot of money. Congress needs to explain to the average tax-payer, who worked many portions of many years to fund this and the rest of the fraud, how said tax-payer is going to get that time and energy back.

  2. ‘ So, where did all the money go?”

To California corrupt politicians. There’s a reason they tried to build this thing out in the middle of AG land no where. The politicians got the map and purchased the land involved dirt cheap. And the sold it at a HUGE profit to the state of California. Including Nancy Pelosi. Duck Duck Go it. Google hides it. It’s like a bad episode of Gunsmoke.

  3. This gigantic boondoggle was never meant to transport anybody between LA and SF.
It is a grift by opportunistic conmen sucking at the gov’t teat.

“Your tax dollars at work,” my ass.

Yep. This project never was meant to be successful. It was a money laundering scheme from the get. Case in point, Fienstiens little dicked hubby was awarded a contract worth like a bazillion dollars. Can’t remember the exact amount but trust me it was impressive. It got cancelled. He got paid anyway. Fuck me running. All this needs to be investigated. Will it be? No.

A giant money laundering operation is all it was, is and ever was meant to be. The money should be clawed back from every single participant, right down to the salaries of licensed engineers and accountants working for Cal Trans and didn’t report it.

  6. And your taxpayer overlords watched taxpayers money vanish into the dust of political history. So much for being represented by crooks making easy money from voting fools.

  7. 🛑 When are people going to finally realize 🛑

When democrats get involved in any sort of project, it disappears into committees, departments, friends, and back into to their own pockets as a gratuity.

  8. I disagree; I think the California High Speed Rail project is very viable. But first, we need to swindle the people of Rock Ridge out of their land and their town so California politicians can buy that property for a song. If the Rock Ridge citizens balk, California can assign a highly controversial, suspect and unpopular politician – let’s code name him or her “Sheriff Bart” – to run that community into the ground. Maybe a former mayor of Los Angeles or San Francisco will be available by then, although he or she should also be an illegal alien. After Rock Ridge is destroyed due to the conflicts between sheriff Bart and its citizens, California democrats can buy the land for a song and make billions in addition to the billions we can “divert” from construction funds. We should probably appoint Headley Lamarr, Jr. to spearhead this process.

Mel Brooks laid this all out in his documentary Blazing Saddles years ago.

  9. Nuisance: OK, I have a new plan. A high-speed train from San Francico to Molesto, CA. There are lots of guys in San Francisco who would support it and ride it. They have already formed a support committee, called ‘Ride’em Cowboy'”.
