DOGE employees have made changes to grants.gov, a federal website that has traditionally served as a clearinghouse for more than $500 billion in annual awards and is used by thousands of outside organizations, the people said. Federal agencies including the Defense, State and Interior departments have historically have posted their grant opportunities directly to the site. Nonprofits, universities and local governments respond to these grant opportunities with applications to receive federal funding for activities that include cancer research, cybersecurity, highway construction and wastewater management. Any entity that large needs to be inspected. Forget the fine-toothed comb, I’ll bet you can find half the waste with a picket fence!

Here’s the deal and I’m not so sure they fully appreciate it:
1) Federal grant funding has the woke agenda woven into it before it leaves DC and grant funding demands that any agency, NGO or non profit be staffed up with individuals who can unwind what all of that entails. That is how rural and suburban jurisdictions end up with the rottenest bastards imaginable on their staff. These sonsabitches push the woke agenda out from places like Olympia and Helena into every corner of the state.
2) Federal grant funding is managed at the state levels and in many, actually most cases, where the state gets federal money the application criteria are set at the state level and is used to determine what can and cannot be funded. That is how rural jurisdictions end up with a fucking roundabout in the middle of a goddamn corn field or sagebrush in a county that has real, present and desperate needs. Or how about sixteen multi use path (fancy sidewalk) on both sides of a road that sees one or two pedestrians, skate boarders or bicycles per hour on average at the busiest time of the year.
3) The grant funding committees are loaded up with hand picked assholes placed there by the powers that be and are based on population. So Seattle gets to decide what Ephrata citizens needs are and it’s worse than that it is a bunch of fucking misfits who graduated from the University of Washington Urban Planning School or are activist members of Cascade Bicycle Club (which long ago morphed into being nothing but a communist front group).
It goes on and on and it is in every last federal funding program, not just transportation. I observed it my entire career and fully comprehended how it worked to use 90% of federal money to promote the bullshit woke agenda and at best 10% actually gets to what the ostensible purpose was for it in the first place.
The proper amount of grant money is ZERO.
Private citizens can support whatever they want; no government should support things that any number less than 100% want them to support – in which case the support should still come from independent donations. At the very, very least intrusive there is still a bureaucracy cost – but we all know that it is much, much more than just bureaucracy.
It’s an obscure reference from an otherwise blasphemous movie, but as I watch the Left’s reaction, their hue and cry about Musk “stealing” and doing fraudulent stuff within the agencies, I can’t help but think of that scene from “Oh, God!” where the — I think it’s a RC Cardinal — dives for the pile of money and screams, “Give me my G*d damned money!”
The only reason the Left is going ape over DOGE is because Musk is cutting them off from every one of the fraudulent con games. Very satisfying because we all know how what a foreign — nay, unthinkable — idea it is for their believers to ante up out of their own pockets. They’re so hosed.
