Ford cancels electric F-150

PM:
Just four years after it was launched, the Ford Motor Company has pulled the plug on its electric F-150 Lightning truck. The company instead will reportedly be focusing on hybrid vehicles and a future lineup of smaller and more affordable electric vehicles.

In a call with reporters on Monday, Andrew Frick, the president of Ford Blue and Ford Model E, the company’s commercial and electric divisions, said, “The American consumer is speaking clearly and they want the benefits of electrification like instant torque and mobile power. But they also demand affordability … rather than spending billions more on large EVs that now have no path to profitability, we are allocating that money into higher-returning areas,” per NPR.

When the truck was announced in 2021, the company said that it would cost just $40,000. However, once trucks began to roll off the production line, the company was unable to hit this target. MORE

  1. When will car manufacturers and the EPA figure out that we consumers would love to have a turbocharged 4 cylinder diesel sedan like the VW jetta and Passat that knocked back 60 mpg before California cafe standards killed them?….

  2. I live near a very popular lake and know several people that don’t need trucks for work and have bought them. They can’t pull a trailer 50 miles with a boat on it. I spend most my daylight life on construction sites and have yet to see any worker using an electric truck.

  3. It was always a scam, and like most green-weenie stuff: follow the money.

It was amazing how fast the auto induatry at large catered to that nonsense. And, in case President Donald J. Trump has any free time he should be vocally calling B.S. on the green scam. Fire ALL the EPA apparatchiks that had anything to do with classifying CO2 as a “pollutant”.

  4. Picture that weird lil smirk that Shitpants biden would flash or when his called his detractors assholes.

Then ask Gavin Newscumb who will provide the all-electric fleet that Californians must necessarily buy because of anti-fossil-fuel Mandates?

I’m 76, my wife 71. When we bought a pair of new 2023 Kias we figured that those would very likely be the last cars we’d buy. But if I could get an up-to-date VW TDI Jetta SportWagen (we used to own one, a 2007), I’d sell those Kias in a heartbeat and snap up a VW. Terrific cars.

    Or a corded car/truck.
    Plug and pray.
Battery replacement 30 grand +\- and disposal fee.
The fire department calls them trick candles.
I’ve seen them on the side of the road with a 8k generator sticking out the back going at it.
More power to them, gonna need it.
