RedState-
Full disclosure: I’m a Ford guy, and have been for about half a century, dating back to my first car, a 1966 Galaxie 500 two-door hardtop with a thunderous 390GT big-block V-8. I’ve never been disappointed. Granted, in the mid to late ’70s, Ford, along with the other American car companies, had some serious issues. But they got their feces cohesive, and starting with my 1984 Thunderbird, they’ve all been first-rate autos. Currently, we own three: A 2013 Ford Edge, a 2017 Ford Expedition, and my recent purchase, a 2022 F-350.
Upon a time, I also owned that landmark auto, a 1965 Mustang. It was a lot of fun. An old buddy of mine is now engaged in a ground-up restoration of a 1970 Mach I with a drag pack, including a factory-spec rebuild of its 428 Cobra Jet engine, and that ought to be fun, too.
I have to say, though, that I’m not a fan of what Ford is doing to the 2026 Mustang, or what they are basing it on. more here
By any measures the worst by far was the Mustang II. Maybe this author doesn’t even acknowledge that piece of shit as a real Mustang, though. It’s understandable that everyone wants to pretend it never existed.
He’s wrong.
The worst mustang ever was the mustang II.

Even the classic car restoration part websites have completely ignored it when providing restoration parts. They are now embracing the Fox body and providing more and more parts as the next generation of young classic car enthusiasts can’t afford the 60’s era mustangs.
Hey Al,
who was even looking at the Mustang II, what with Farrah gracing the hood???

Will never own anything but a Toyota going forward. About 700,000 total miles on the ones we have owned. Two horrible Fords in our past (’71 Torino and ’75 Mustang II). Never again.
BTW – I’m installing sequential tail lights in my 69 Mach 1 this weekend.
The project stalled because I need to purchase new gaskets and paint the tail light buckets since they are slightly rusted after 57 years…

This isn’t my car but mine is similar.
Opinions are like assholes…
Apart from the color in the photo I don’t see any real connection to the 80s version. The hoodline is awful though.
Glad to see him call out the new Broncos too. I don’t have a problem with the vehicles so much, perhaps that’s what the public wants. But to give them the Bronco name was sacrilege.
Never forget… in 1989, they tried to replace the Mustang with what later became the Probe.
Had a 67 Galaxy 500 hardtop with the 390 big block. Even had a black vinyl top. Spilled British Sterling cologne on the carpet on purpose. Chicks loved it. Had a Tenna Ranger 8 track player…..
Those rear body lines look awfully similar to a Dodge Charger.
I would only own one Mustang. Boss 302. Any year. They actually did a pretty decent job on the new ones
Mustang II lol I knew the first comment would hit that shit hard. If I were given a choice between a Mustang II and a Vega, I’d walk.
A customer of mine completely lost his SH#T on Ford because his Electric Mustang Mach-E had 1/3rd of the promised range when driving conservatively.
They took it back was because he buys a few commercial vehicles a year from the jackasses and they didn’t want to lose the real business.
Mustang II’s, Vega’s, Pinto’s Gremlins, AMC Pacers, Chevettes which we called shove its, gutless Chevy Corvettes, Ford Grenada’s etc. were all 70’s POS’s. The 70’s wasn’t a good decade for cars especially with all the environmental restrictions, the worthless double nickel speed limit, higher gas prices due to OPEC in the mid 70’s and many other factors produced crappy cars most of which didn’t survive the 70’s.
All I see is that this guy is so well off he can afford expensive new vehicles every few years. My Nissan is 35 yrs old, paid for 30 yrs and will take me wherever I want.
The Ford Probe was an ugly monster. Good thing we don’t see them anymore.
My dad had a ’67 Ford Fairline 390 with a 390. That thing could move.
No surprise there. Ford’s product line is based on the ideas of a preppy moron who thinks he knows what will bring in business. Well Ford’s dumb fuck lineup includes an F150 Pickup that is only available in the lowest bottom trim you could purchase. I want an F150 XLT with heated seats and an 8 foot bed. Not possible and I am NOT going back to GM to get a truck with a Mexican transmission that fails at 50,000 miles. My daughter wants a Mustang based on a great product, but seeing the lineup, she’s looking at a used one or a Dodge muscle car which is almost extinct. [Yes, she can really handle a manual transmission] It’s hard to fathom that these abjectly stupid moron designers can’t figure out what people want. I have a great F150 XLT pickup and at last service told me my tires were dry-rotting and because I had low mileage said I need to wear out my truck because of tires. I told them tires were a far cheaper expense than a new truck that didn’t even offer me what I currently have.
Ford is doing the same thing that GM did when killing Oldsmobile.
Drove Oldsmobile’s for 50 plus years and the only trouble I had was tires and wiper blades. It’s really unimaginable how stupid these people are.
Ford is just another four letter word for Junk as fa as I’ concerned. 60s Fords were pretty good, but when the 70s kicked in they went to hell with unreliability and Jap steel that was starting to rust on the ride over. I’ve owned two Fords from the 69 and 73 and had no issues. Mustang II was a joke and everybody at the time knew it was garbage. Ford couldn’t make a good 4 to save it’s ass let alone in a Mustang. 80’s 90s and on complete junk for many models except for V8 RWD which were still pretty good. 5L straight 6 and V8s were almost bullet-proof. I worked for a company from the 90s to the 2020’s that bought Fords exclusively (because they were CHEAP) until 2011 them stopped because they were such Garage Monsters! It got to the point where I even refused to accept Fords for rentals after being stranded a few times! I got more Ford horror stories from neighbors and friends then space and time allow, but even now they have the highest number of recalls going on then ever in history! People who lease for three years even have numerous issues with Fords, but hey, it’s under warranty right? Anybody who buys a car for longevity puts the sign of the cross up at a Ford! I’ve never leased, always bought outright and as much as I love the vintage history of Ford, ther is no way would I buy one today!
Mr. Liberty-
Speaking of Toyota- you know what I don’t see anymore? Those square mail truck looking cars. The Scion. I know they were discontinued a few years ago, but you couldn’t turn your head without seeing them in traffic. Dealers were selling them buy one get one for a while. LOL
My entire family drives Toyotas now, I believe.
As they used to say Ford stands for either found on road dead or fixed or repaired daily.
My ’69 Bug still running strong.
FORD in Italian:
Fatto —> Made
Oggi Today
Rotto Broken
Domani Tomorrow
Cheers, Ain’t I a wealth of useless Knowledge…
Close second to the Mustang II in the ugly category is the 71-72 oversized POS Mustang. Third place is the current Mach-E.
Mach E – the E stands for ERROR!
In the running for “Biggest Road Turd of the 70’s” let’s not forget the Chevy Monza.
Told the hubby and youngest daughter (the next in line mechanic) that I will drive my 2018 Mustang so long as they can keep it on the road. It is a joy to drive but for some reason the kids are not inclined to learn to drive a manual so much. Where did we go wrong….
I’d love to see a remake of a ’64-’65 ragtop. They had a light yellow color that year and with a black leather interior…..super hot.
