Germany to send Leopard tanks to Kyiv

BERLIN, Jan 24 (Reuters) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has decided to send Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine and allow other countries such as Poland to do so while the United States may supply Abrams tanks, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

A government spokesperson, the foreign ministry and the defence ministry declined to comment.

The decision concerns at least one company of Leopard 2 A6 tanks that will be provided out of Bundeswehr stocks, said Spiegel magazine, which first reported the news. One company usually comprises 14 tanks.

“Today the Chancellor made a decision that no one took lightly. The fact that Germany will support Ukraine with the Leopard tank is a strong sign of solidarity,” Christian Duerr, parliamentary leader of the co-governing Free Democrats (FDP) was quoted as saying by t-online news portal. MORE

  1. German tanks rolling into foreign capitols has never ended well…

And to what end? Even the U.S. Abrams is subject to IEDs from asymmetric forces.

Do they really think that they are just going toe-to-toe with Soviet tanks?

  2. Are they sending trained tank crews, trained mechanics, and spare parts too?

Because you need trained tank crews, trained mechanics, and spare parts or this is just an expensive scarecrown

  4. When this is over, the person who gets the contract to salvage all the steel from “Destroyed” military hardware sent by the US, European Countries, Russia and civilian vehicles will become a $Billionaire.

The steel will be exported to Russia to build bigger and stronger tanks and ammunition to obliterate countries for annexation.

  5. It was just announced we are sending 38 Abrams. We have a President that has everything to gain from a Thermal Nuclear War. He’s a Traitor and they are closing in on him.

Yep, too busy to impeach or arrest a sitting pResident during a critical stage of the NOT-A-War.

  7. Brad,

Have you noticed that the basement dummy sends everything but troops? Only the Commander In Chief of the military can do that.

  8. On a purely technical note I am curious to see how well Leopard 2 and Abrams stand up to hits from some of the more modern Russian/Iranian/ChyNa weapons.

Though I Sincerely wish no one was actually dying but Europe & the NWO seem determined to burn everything to the ground in order to save the planet from burning Natty Gas & Oil.

I’ve got something I need to track down and send you. May take me a day or two. But this move by Biden may force some peoples hand.

  11. “It was just announced we are sending 38 Abrams.”

They won’t be there until next year. Probably just after the 40year-old Leopard tanks get there. These “Game-Changers” will get there when the game is over.

And dozens of tanks won’t make any difference in a war against hundreds of tanks, not to mention the fact that this is a war of artillery, which the Ukrainians have already lost.

The fools pushing this war, against all reason, should all betaken out back and shot.

  14. It’s not just the tanks. I read a couple days ago that our stock piles of weapons in Japan and South Korea were totally depleted. I’m betting Joe’s getting his 10% off the black market sales. None the less, that war has been lost some time back and Joe continues to poor gas on fire. For a couple reasons. Personal profit, and WWIII.

It’ll run on whatever is available. But it will consume more of the cheap stuff, run worse and require more frequent maintenance.

These behemoths are hangar-queens in the best of times, and they’re way too heavy to navigate the infrastructure in Ukraine. I’m hoping the Pentagram knows this and will stall delivery until the point is moot, but the politicians may prevail in this clusterf—k.

  16. The politicians who are profiting of of this shit don’t give a hoot in hell about is that in order to deploy them they will have to cross rivers on bridges that simply cannot support the weight. They don’t give a shit so long as they keep getting their 10%.
