The new head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division is dramatically reshaping the office to propel President Donald Trump’s social agenda, prompting the departure of about half of the division’s lawyers in recent weeks, according to people familiar with the situation and public statements from top officials.
Since being sworn in this month, civil rights director Harmeet K. Dhillon has redirected her staff to focus on combating antisemitism, the participation of transgender athletes in women’s sports and what Trump and his allies have described as anti-Christian bias and the Democrats’ “woke ideology.” More
So far, so good.
What do we have to do to get the OTHER half to quit?
Send them to GITMO.
Concur with SNS above, a good start.
Sorry guys,
This one has the ear marks of massive over-correction. All we needed was the government to leave us alone. We don’t need to weaponize the DOJ to chase after imaginary anti-Semites and alleged anti-Christians. I believe we are a little better than this.
@Jason, Beg to disagree..respectfully, of course. This isn’t an over-correction. For one thing, those who resigned were undoubtedly going to to try to “resist”/undercut the will of the people who voted for POTUS Trump. Second, there is and has been a sustained effort to target, intimidate and harass those of both the Jewish and Christian faith in this country. It may not seem like a full-blown movement at the moment, but it has a definite toehold on American campuses and otherwise. Crimes against Jews and Christians are also overlooked or dismissed in the courts — if arrests are even made. At the very least, the DoJ needs to get to the bottom of who decided it was a good idea to spy on Catholics in their houses of worship. That’s justice denied, right there. That’s not weaponization. I wouldn’t be surprised if a great number of those who quit were also working on that spy operation, and knew it would eventually come to light.
@Abigail
The over-correction I was talking about is not the people quitting, let them quit. And if some of them targeted Jews and Christians then go after them.
I’m talking about the policies the current DOJ is describing, “focusing on antisemitism and anti-Christian bias”. Sounds to me like just more ideology that doesn’t belong in a government organization. What does that even mean? If someone wants to be an antisemite or anti-Christian, now they’re breaking the law? Great, get ready to never be able to criticize Israel again, or Netanyahu for that matter. I’m sorry, but yes, that is weaponizing the DOJ.
Q. What do you call half of the civil rights lawyers reigning from the DOJ?
A. A good start.
