Harvard Is the Symptom, Academia Is the Disease

GP

Professor William Jacobson teaches law at Cornell and also publishes the Legal Insurrection blog. He recently appeared on FOX News to offer his thoughts about the ongoing battle between Harvard and the Trump administration.

Jacobson addresses the issue of antisemitic protests on campuses and suggests that Trump is justified in threatening Harvard’s tax-exempt status, but then goes further.

Jacobson suggests that what people are seeing at Harvard is just a symptom of a much larger problem in all of education. He notes that the radical left has taken over education at multiple levels and that schools have an anti-American problem and an anti-capitalism problem. More

  2. I agree with professor Jacobson when he says our education system is anti-American and anti-capitalist. I saw that back in the 80s when I attended school. All the teachers were radical 60s leftovers.

But I take issue with his depiction of the current protests as “antisemitic”. I can’t look into everyone’s heart but most of the students and other protesters seem to be anti-Zionists, big difference. I happen to be one myself. And protesting the overreach of the Netanyahu regime should and must be a form of protected speech.

  3. Into the WABAC, Sherman.
Attended college in ’60s and ’70s, even then I saw this.
Did fine with STEM classes, it was the classes the professor had an opinion, that got me into trouble.
They didn’t like me or my opinions.
Decided I would rather go out into the real world and not have to jump through hoops.
If I had been able to go and not take silly classes that really taught me nothing but attempted to reprogram me, woulda finished.
If you remember the ’60s/’70s, you weren’t there.

  4. Yes, yes Professor! But why stop there? Why not have some sort of branding system so that antisemitic protesters on campuses could be marked as the pariahs they deserve to be? How about a yellow star, stitched to their clothes, or some such? But sorry – I interrupt. Do go on….

  5. If Harvard is the symptom, and academia is the disease, then using the endowments of all these colleges and universities to pay-off all the student loans is the cure.

    Jubilee.
