I remember making a tone with a Good and Plenty box.
What happened? I can’t play shite anymore.

I thought they were black and white. What candy am I thinking of?
I guess you don’t blow anymore.
I was thinking of these: https://cdn6.bigcommerce.com/s-1jnzelj6/products/487/images/982/40198__59431.1406663806.1280.1280.jpg?c=2
Wut?
I guess you don’t blow anymore.>>
No, that can’t be it.
MJA, those aren’t black and white, I know what you are thinking of, when I stop thinking about it, it will come to me.
They were identical to G and P, but black and white. Actually it tasted the same.
This was Barry Soetoro’s favorite — http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/818UgkuZ05L._SX425SX425_SY181_CR,0,0,425,181_PIbundle-12,TopRight,0,0_SX425_SY181_CR,0,0,425,181_SH20_.jpg
Fur means blowing into an empty candy box that made a kazoo kind of sound. Well you can thank todays’ King Kong glue squirters in Big Ag for going full ape shit by applying glue on boxes like it was holding a jets’ fuselage together.
“Licorice is the liver of candy.”
― Michael O’Donoghue
I remember using candy boxes as a kazoo. Then I got older and started playing tunes on beer bottles.
And who remembers these?

Oh yeah. Bottle Caps. My wife and I fight over the brown ones.
I’ve been ordered off candy by my doctor. Can you tell?

Fun fact: The pink Good ‘n’ Plenty candies are colored with a red dye called K-Carmine, produced from the crushed bodies of the female cochineal insect.
Seriously. Look it up.
Yum, yum.
😛
“That’s a root beer! Gimme that one!”
“Fuuuuuk you…”
There are these hard marshmallowy candies that would come out during valentines day season. Pink, red, white hearts, cupids and arrows. Anyone remember what the hell I’m going on about? I loved those!
They were like these: http://ep.yimg.com/ay/oryans/valentine-mellowcreme-mix-2.jpg
But they were in bags with the shapes I mentioned.
Remember candy necklaces? You’d start sweating and then bees would follow your ass home? Ugh.
Mr. Hat how would you be able to remember the good ole days when penny candy was actually a penny if you’re only 39?
and don’t look for a “prize” in your cracker jack either

POPROCKS!!!

Astro Pop and Doritos = Self Tracheotomy lol
Fuck yeah! Poprocks… but back when they used to make you cry.
Poprocks today are uber gay.
Shaunqueefus-
Right??? And you HAD to drink a soda with them. haha
rock candy still on the string was the shit way back in the day
MJA, damn right!
I ate some of these as a kid in Japan:

I sent a bag of circus peanuts to my dad about a week ago. When we talked on the ‘phone he said, “Some asshole sent me a bag of Circus Peanuts…”
Well, there you have it.
lolol
WHY? http://www.candystore.com/boston-baked-beans-mini-boxes/?gclid=CP_AqZ3W-8wCFYEehgodG5gHUg
I never understood the passion for these. lol. I only saw grown ups eating them.
I won’t chew gum anymore unless it’s the sugar loaded bubblicious or bubble yum.
Sugar free gum sucks.
That Violet Gum is… that’s the fucking nastiest shit on the planet. I can’t put it into words. It’s fucking NASTY. The Surgeon General said, “That shit is fucking nasty. Don’t put it in your mouth.”
When I was a kid my favorite was Charleston Chew but you had to put ’em in the freezer and break ’em into little pieces. They still make CCs but it just isn’t the same thing. Probably HFCS instead of sugar or something.
I also had a great time annoying, I mean SERIOUSLY annoying any nearby grownups with the candy box one-note kazoo thing.
@Shaunqueefus – Yep. I hear people who have chewed that nasty violet gum have had to eat dog turds as a breath freshener.
I’m serious. That shit is nauseating.
Uncle Al – Dogs that bite Muzlims chew on that gum just to get the taste outta their mouths!!
I love the Boston Baked Beans! And those boxes still make music!
I’m hungry now…
and now, since I clicked MJA link, my FB feed has BBB ads!
My people were farmers and candy was a rare treat. I loved horehound candy (the herb tastes like mint and licorice). A very old-fashioned candy.
I hated Necco’s. Tasteless, chalk-like wafers. They don’t melt and the mouth feel was like sucking on a piece of baked cardboard.
…and the most seriously bad comics were Bazooka Joe and his pals.
bazooka bubble gum was the best. I always liked the comics as a kid.
I remember the gum cigarettes has a white confectionery sugar that you could blow out as smoke.
How about the little wax bottles with colored juices. Sip the liquid out then chew the tasteless wax.
Can’t believe we actually ate all these things mentioned above.

A great place to get your vintage candy fix even if you’re only 39.
AA, Hobby Lobby has Horehound candy and other vintage treats up by the cash registers. We had some sassafras trees by the pond so there was always a treat to be had free.
What’s with you violet haters???? Violet candy and home made candied violets are excellent. I could use a mug of violet black tea right now.
http://www.svtea.com/Violet-Black-Tea/productinfo/T0658/
Black Jack gum and Clove gum were favorites of mine. I seem to remember some nasty flat pink gum that came with Outer Limits(?) horror movie(?) collectors’ cards.
I liked Clark’s Teabury gum… It tasted like wax.
@ MJA,
I know what you are talking about with the black and white candy. They were like cardboard licorice with a white coating, about 3/4 inch long tubs and about 1/2 inch in diameter. Don’t remember what they were called officially, but I thought they tasted like shiite.
We sold penny candy at our store. Bullseyes, several for a penny; real Mexican jumping beans; Dots; those awful buttons that came on a strip of paper; sour cherries, 5 for a penny; watermelon slices; marshmallowy peanut; sen-sen; coconut flavored rainbow colored strip candy – can’t think of anymore, but I bet I remember how much they sold for. 🙂
about that licorice candy I mentioned above….it should read 3/4 inch TUBES, not tubs.
Ever take a bath in a 3/4 inch tub? It sucks.
I always got Good and Plenty when we went to the movies, my asshole sisters hated licorice so they wouldn’t steal it. Grew to love it, still buy it, the best comes from Australia, not too sweet and strong licorice flavour.
Abba-Zabba and French Burnt Peanuts, awesome.
OTD – Oh yeah! Kookaburra black Australian licorice – that stuff’s so good it must have drugs in it!
I loved Teaberry gum. And Beeman’s Pepsin. Hated Circus Peanuts. Does anyone remember Moth Balls? They were a filbert coated in white sugar candy. I used to love those.
@Plain Jane – what were bulls eyes? Were they the candy shaped like a vinyl record – licorice with a red bead in the middle?
The best licorice was Callard & Bowsers soft black licorice. The package kinda looked like a pack of Benson & Hedges.
A little late, but remember the foot long Marathon Bar? You could freeze them and then smash it into bits of caramel and chocolate goodness!
Old Oaks – we called that Turkish Taffy. A little different, not a foot long and no chocolate in it, but we froze ’em and smashed ’em.
Fun Facts to Know and Tell:
I believe the original All Day Sucker eventually became known as the Bath-House Barry Bar…
Anybody else here remember Lik-m-aid?
