House Dems stage sit-in protest in dispute over gun control

Rebellious Democrats disrupted the House’s legislative work on Wednesday, staging a sit-in on the House floor and refusing to leave until they secured a vote on gun control measures. Exasperated Republicans were forced to recess while cutting off the C-Span cameras that showed the protest.

A group of about three dozen Democrats led by Georgia Rep. John Lewis demanded a vote on measures to expand background checks and block gun purchases by some suspected terrorists in the aftermath of last week’s massacre in Orlando, Florida, that killed 49 people. It was the worst shooting in modern history.

“No bill, no break,” shouted Democrats, who demanded that House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., keep the House in session through its planned weeklong recess next week to debate and vote on gun legislation.  more here

  1. “We demand that you listen to us, as we refuse to listen to you!”

It has been entertaining to see my Facebook feed about this, some lauding them for the sit-in and some blasting them for it.

  2. If the speaker had a teensy set of stones, he would have Capitol PD remove the bastards and lock them out. They are damned traitors and deserve to be treated as such.

  3. Fuck em. I’m not sure what the rules are but can’t the majority GOP just shut down the Senate (or leave it open but not bring any bills to the floor) and leave the children to play on the carpet? Hell, why wouldn’t they leave the cameras on but turn off the microphones. See how long the Dems last when they start missing meals at Ruths’ Cris or Mortons as well as the cocktail parties.

  4. Let them sit there. Treat them like a tantrum-throwing children they behave like. So long as they’re being quiet with their sit-in, just work and walk around them. Who needs who more? They need the rest of Kongress, more than Kongress needs their sorry flabby lame brain-dead asses.

  5. SCREW “photoshopping” these bastards…ARREST THEM!
    The republicans are worthless pussies.

  6. “I am willing to stay here until hell freezes over,” added Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.

You’ll have to wait until January when Trump is sworn in, you bint.

“I am willing to stay here until hell freezes over,” added Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.

Or until she wraps her legs around Satan.

  8. Seriously, who votes for these ‘people’?! They look like a star wars bar scene of mental dimwits. Truly embarrassing and maddening that these bozos are stealing our freedom daily by regulating and taxing our existence to death. These people deserve to be mocked out of existence.

  9. I agree with B Woodman, except I would order bouncy houses, nap blankets and sippy cups to get them through their stay.

  10. Democrats doing what they do best, sitting on their ass and ignoring the problem….islamic terrorism and protecting the nation’s citizens.

  11. Well, at least as long as they are sitting there like petulant flower children, they can’t do any legislative damage. Of course I wonder how many taxpayer dollars are being wasted by this silly stunt.

My advice to the spineless Republicans, leave them there, take your recess, and go home. But please make sure you suspend their pay for the duration.

  12. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. brings a bit of hell with her wherever she goes. How the heck will she get up?

Now, don’t you wish they’d take a page from their refugee allies in Germany and burn the place down? Oh how I’d love to see them go to jail for arson. Jackasses, braying as usual. Where’s that bitch, Pelosi?

  13. Have the Sergeant-at-Arms bring in some badass Marines, arrest and cuff these assholes and then drag them out by their feet with cameras rolling to the local PD to be processed, charged, and to spend some quality time in the tank with Bubba, Darqueefus, and Shaniqua. Then, because of their arrest record, have them expelled from office with all benefits cut off.

  14. @Plough Jogger — You’ve just hit on something. It would certainly be easy enough to fill a moving box full of thrift store baby stuff — rattles, blankies, bottles, sippy cups, diapers and so on — and mail it to the U.S. Congress. Would be best to tip off a media friend to it. It would be funny enough to go viral.

Does anyone have a friend in D.C. who could just take it over to the House? Just address it to the named Ds, c/o House Speaker.

  15. Would that Andrew Jackson could come back for an hour to cane these miscreants out of the People’s house

  16. A friend just nailed the reason why they are there.

Okay instead of the house during the sit-in why don’t they simply make laws that are already in existence work? These are all just political ploys to make us pay attention to one side or the other there are plenty of laws in place!!
Ask yourself what’s really in this new law or legislation that they want past because it has nothing to do with guns I guarantee it remember they write little things in every law they push to get it passed so they can sneak that particular item into law.

  17. Bunch of fck’n children. They sit there in discomfort thinking that they will eventually get their way if they keep up the tantrums.

  18. This is truly an embarrassing display of petulance and childishness. If the democrats wanted “common sense” gun control they should have done it when they had majorities in both legislative branches and the White House . Douchebags.

  19. These twats never graduated from the 1960’s. Somebody needs to tell them that the hippie era of sit-ins and such is so last century.

  20. Speaker Paul Ryan failed his constituents and the citizens of the united States by allowing this tragic display of spiteful children on the floor of the US House. He has the authority and the mandate to maintain order, and Ryan failed to do so.

  21. A local Tallahassee TV station was highlighting Gwen Graham, who stole the Second Congressional district by carrying the liberal vote in Tallahassee/Leon County by being “daddy’s girl (daughter of former Governor/former Senator Bob Graham). Senator Bill Nelson also was posing with her. As has as daddy’s girl is, the recent redistricting moves the boundary of Corene (“Go Gattas” ) Brown’s spaghetti district from Jacksonville to Tallahassee/Leon County instead of the current from Jacksonville to Orange County boundaries. So, as bad as it was to be misrepresented by daddy’s girl, it appears I’m now misrepresented by Ms. Go Gatas.
Apparently, daddy’s girl saw that splitting up Tallahassee/Leon County would break up her gravy train so she is hoping to follow in daddy’s footsteps by running for Governor. The must think this stunt will help her in the statewide race.
