When people who are overweight and obese stopped taking their weight-loss medications they regained weight faster than those who stopped a diet or exercise program, a new review has found.
Weight loss medications containing semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, have taken off in popularity. But about half of people with obesity on this class of medications, called glucagon-like peptide agonists or GLP-1s, stop taking it within a year. Studies suggest that most people discontinue their use due to the high cost and adverse gastrointestinal side-effects. More
Estimates are 12% of our population and 1/5th of all women have or are taking a GLP-1 based drug. Here

The names they come up with for this shit. I would have like that job. Smoke dope and spin the letter wheel all day. Or maybe they use an Ouija board. Judging by the names, that’s more likely. My current favorite among these weight loss concoctions is “Zepbound”. You stop taking that shit, you’re bound to become a zeppelin again.
Here’s the problem I have with these miracle drugs. You are not getting fitter or in better shape. You are not creating lean muscle mass. You’re just starving yourself and left with a puddle of floppy sorta flesh. Ideally if they took these drugs and worked out they could get some amazing results. But that never happens because they’re to damn lazy. I do think these drugs have their place. But they’re totally over used.
I can’t help but equate ‘fat lowering pills’ to Covid shots.
YOU DON’T NEED either.
Take control of your own body, stop looking for sympathy from others.
While there may be ‘some’ exceptions…..YOU are the one in charge of your dietary and physical needs. Stop throwing money at people you don’t even know.
Self-control is in YOUR court, grab it.
Alternate title for the article: Former fat fucks become fat fucks again.
That weight loss crap sounds like pure poison. Put down the cheetos and move around some more.

Got to totally disagree. If you’re a 62 year old 260 pound female these drugs offer you a longer life. The problem is the people that prescribe these drugs fail to tell said female about the time you reach 190 you gotta get your fat ass in the gym. And that’s the problem I have with these drugs. Stupid physicians.
Yes, I take one of those medications. But I am type 2 diabetic, and while I was told it would like help with some weight loss, the main reason was for diabetes.
I have dropped a lot of weight over the past 3 or 4 years. But this weight loss started before Mounjaro, and was primarily due to (1) a change in diet, and (2) making regular exercise a primary concern. In fact, when GLPs became fashionable for weight loss, I was unable to fill my prescription for a few months and still continued to lose weight.
If you need a GLP to jump start a weight loss program, then go for it. But it’s a way to begin weight loss: eventually one needs to eat more sensibly, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep and rest. I’m more satisfied that my gym sessions, which started at “pathetic,” progressed to “embarrassing” and now are at “o.k.” I will never be Brad, but am way ahead of Mamdani.

Honestly, guys like you are my heroes. Keep it up bud.
Calories in – calories out = weight change. Most people will find it easier to increase exercise than restrict calories.
Standard cause and effect. Back in the days of the fad diets, you saw the same thing. 6 months after they went off the diet, the weight came back.
These are great tools if sed properly. Thankfully I love walking to the gym and lifting so using 1 mg or less per week helps “just enough”.
Meanwhile my daughter and her hubby steadfastly refuse to exercise, I think they are afraid it wont look cool or something. Both have last lots of weight but the glp-1 face is very evident and they have no exit strategy.
If these were more affordable their neuroprotective and anti-aging benefits would make permanent use fine if tolerance isnt an issue.
Cut out processed foods. That’s how I’ve been able to lose and keep off 25 pounds.
This is why I love RFK and what he is doing with our food supply.
Make America Healthy Again!
Once obese, always obese.
Your metabolism can’t be retrained.
I know, I’m a fat guy in recovery.
Cynic: I don’t blame you for believing that the solution to weight loss is calories in/calories out. That’s been the mantra for weight loss most of our lives. However, if one is ingesting a majority of their calories from carbs, it doesn’t matter how much they exercise if all they’re doing is burning up the carb calories and glucose stored in their muscles every day. They won’t make an appreciable dent in their visceral fat. Combining very low calories and a lot of exercise may work for a time, but it is unsustainable. That’s why people regain the weight they lost and usually more than that.
These GLP drugs are going to be an absolute nightmare for our nation and people. I understand the desire for a quick fix or a boost up, but unless you take the time to understand the science behind real nutrition and what these drugs do, you’re no better off than you began. Worse, in fact.
Aircubed: You may not be able to retrain your metabolism, but you can retrain the dopamine receptors in your brain that are addicted to sugar/glucose. Carb addiction is no different than any other addiction in that sense.
Gluttony is a spiritual rather than a physical condition. Greed, gluttony, lust and envy are all remarkably closely interrelated spiritual challenges. Where one is vividly present the others can be strongly inferred.
Taking dope to obscure the effects of spiritual distemper is not unusual. Nor has it been proven effective in the long run.
Disclaimer: I do take Mounjaro, but it was prescribed primarily for blood sugar control and not weight loss. A1C was at 12 when first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes; A1C is now close to 5 and I never had to take insulin.
That is due more to lifestyle changes than drugs. Processed sugar is, at least for me, is highly addictive so I try to avoid it. All my life I’ve been an avid walker, and I still walk 4 to 7 miles a day. A couple of years ago I got back into weight training, and that has actually done more for weight loss than walking or jogging (which I can do again). Weight training also has other benefits; for me it’s a stress reliever and at the gym I have to concentrate which blocks out other concerns. I get more sleep and rest than I used to, and who doesn’t like sleeping a little more?
The key is, at least for me, is learning about nutrition, exercise and how to develop healthier habits. The older I get, the more diet plays a role in weight management. At the gym, I have learned a lot from guys who (1) didn’t judge and (2) had lots of advice when it comes to form and avoiding injury. GLPs can help kickstart a weight loss program, but changes to diet and incorporating exercise – aerobic and anaerobic – are vital but one should learn how to start and how to make exercise sustainable. The internet can be a useful tool, although you need to separate the fads from the valuable information. And over a relatively short period of time, a healthier lifestyle is very sustainable and in most cases preferable.
Finally, don’t worry when you “screw up.” Sometimes I have a bad session at the gym, but a bad workout is better than no work out. People have birthdays and weddings and it’s o.k. to have a piece of cake. I still enjoy an occasional margarita or beer. My son and I will have pizza once in a while. But a healthier lifestyle is not a prison sentence; it’s developing better habits – usually with small steps at a time – so forgive yourself and continue to work on self-improvement.
^^^Sorry if I sound like a recently converted nut – I’m not. I have always trended towards overweight, and have been up and down the weight ladder several times over the decades and have a closet full of ill-fitting clothes to prove it.
Wyatt: You are a beautiful example of nutritional consciousness and maturity. Congrats on your a1c improvement! Do you still have to take Manjouro for blood sugar control? Sounds like you’re doing that adequately through diet and exercise.
“Your metabolism can’t be retrained.”
Not true. Working out large muscle groups has proven to speed up your metabolism. Getting radiation to the side of your throat will do it too. But I wouldn’t recommend it.
