7. Juneteenth as a national holiday is total BS. I’m from deep southeast Texas where sailing ships reportedly delivered the first news of the Civil War’s end to people there. Juneteenth wasn’t a thing there when I was growing up. I never even heard the word until I got out of the USAF in 1977. There were no parades or gatherings to celebrate. It began to surface and be discussed about the time Kwanza did. In Beaumont, Texas, where there is a huge black population, you’d be lucky to see two dozen blacks gathering to celebrate Juneteenth in a city park as it’s just not that big a deal. The local news channels always devote more time to it than is deserved because that’s what ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates do. It’s just not a big thing in SE Texas. It was never a local or state holiday in Texas. It was known about historically, but that’s about it. The Democrats decided to ram it down America’s throat with yet another national holiday to appease the minority class. What’s next, a national holiday for Toyotathon? Pretty soon, federal workers won’t be working thirty days a year.
