Newsweek – The Islamist militant group Hezbollah exploded into a major cocaine trafficker for the United States over the past decade—and it happened under former President Barack Obama’s watch to help score a nuclear deal with Iran, a report revealed Monday.
Project Cassandra, a campaign launched by the Drug Enforcement Administration in 2008, found that the Iran-backed military and political organization collected $1 billion a year from money laundering, criminal activities, and drug and weapons trade, according to Politico. Over the following eight years, the agency found that Hezbollah was involved in cocaine shipments from Latin America to West Africa, as well as through Venezuela and Mexico to the United States.
KANSAS CITY, MO (KSHB) – A Virginia man was arrested in Johnson County, Kansas for allegedly posing as a doctor.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia, 30-year-old Vishal Patel used identification details of real doctors to pose as one for online job applications.
Prosecutors say Patel obtained this information by posing as a real doctor and contacting several oversight agencies. He told those groups to change the doctors’ records so it would appear those records would be associated with Patel.
YUMA, AZ (KVOA) – A 29-year old undocumented immigrant previously removed from the U.S. after convictions for child exploitation and maintaining child pornography has been arrested again.
Wellton Station Border Patrol agents patrolling near Gila Bend Wednesday arrested three undocumented immigrants from Mexico.
RALEIGH, NC (WRAL) – Two men who led police on a high-speed chase Friday night on Interstate 540 in north Raleigh will finish the night in custody.
Authorities said the pair jumped from their vehicle and ran at Brier Creek shopping center and were tracked down by K9 officers before their arrest.
The men were driving a 2007 silver Lexus SUV.
Witnesses reported more than a dozen police cars involved in the chase at speeds of up to 100 mph.
At approximately 8 p.m., agents tracked a man north from the International Border approximately 24 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. Agents apprehended the man and determined that he was illegally present in the United States. The man was placed under arrest and transported to the El Centro Station for further processing.
Agents conducted record checks and identified the man as Javier Reyes-Gomez. The man had three felony conviction for sexual acts performed on a minor; to include, Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a Child under 14, which he was sentenced to 56 months in jail. Furthermore, record checks revealed Gomez subsequently was ordered removed by an Immigration Judge on Mar. 2, 2002.
HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (KGBT) – A 34-year-old Mercedes woman was charged Sunday after investigators say she admitted suffocating her one-month-old daughter, according to a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Maria Guadalupe Cardenas, 34, was charged with capital murder, a capital offense.
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a call Saturday from a woman — later identified as Cardenas — who said she had just killed her infant, according to the news release.
RALEIGH, NC (The News & Observer) – A Raleigh man accused of selling drugs to the same undercover police officer three times in less than a week is facing several charges.
Tomas Aguayo-Moreno, 25, was charged by Wake County sheriff’s deputies with eight counts of trafficking in LSD, one count of trafficking in cocaine, three counts of maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for drug purposes, felony marijuana possession and one count each of cocaine possession, cocaine sale and cocaine delivery.
