A memorial bust of American singer Jim Morrison that was stolen from his grave 37 years ago has been found by chance, according to French police.
The statue of The Doors frontman was recovered in Paris during an investigation conducted by its financial and anti-corruption arm that was unrelated to the original theft, it said in a post on Instagram.
Morrison’s grave has long been a site for fans of the rock band to pay their respects in an unusual way – graffiti sprawls across neighbouring gravestones in the poet’s corner of the famous Père-Lachaise cemetery, which also houses the tombs of Edith Piaf and Oscar Wilde. More
If you’re ever in Paris and wanting to visit an offbeat historic site, I recommend Pere-Lachaise. Be sure to have a guide to the cemetery to see all the interesting monuments and headstones. – Dr. Tar
Took my 15 year old daughter there in 2005. Paying the entrance fee, you receive a map highlighting where all the famous graves are. It was a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Morrison was an idiot. The Doors sucked. He wasn’t a brilliant poet. He was a moronic drug addicted twit. And I am tired of everyone pretending he was a genius.
BTW…GEORGE WENDT WENT
RIP, SEEMED LIKE A NORMAL DUDE
He took a shit live on stage once and ate it that’s how disgusting Jim Morrison was. I’m not a big Doors fan. Frank Zappa was better even though he was extremely strange as well.
Benito – my mom worked a couple of blocks away when I was a kid. I wish I had known about it on the days I spent bored out of my mind sitting in her office doing nothing. I only discovered all the interesting Graves there searching for someone a couple of months ago. Now I live in GA, and while the grave of Bobby Jones at Oakland is interesting, and cover in deposited golf balls, way more interesting folks are buried in Westwood.

I was in Paris in 1983. I went to Pere-Lachaise just to see Jim Morrison’s grave. I was 21 and pretty dumb.
Anyway, it was a terrible experience. I was able to find his grave because his “fans” spray-painted arrows on the gravestones throughout the cemetery leading to his final resting spot.
I was horrified. All those other people had their gravestones vandalized because of a stupid, dead singer.
I think that is when I started to grow up.
A side note, on that trip I had to use the restroom in one of the parks we visited. You entered a building and the stall, but there was no toilet. It was literally a hole, surrounded by paving stones. They did have places to put your feet while you stood and peed.
Never had the desire to return.
@AGATHA, 👍👍👍👍👍!!!!!
I think the most…interesting part of my visit to Pere-Lachaise was the highly polished knob of Victor Noir.
What an educational ‘site IOTW is !
Didn’t know half of those crazy stories about the Doors and Morrison, just liked the music.
