Off the subject, but I was sitting at home yesterday doing nothing and watching it rain buckets outside. The phone rang and my BIL said he had two tickets to see Asleep at the Wheel in Houston that evening and asked if I was interested. HECK YEAH! In a matter of hours, we were at the Heights Theatre enjoying a fantastic Texas Swing extravaganza. Those guys, especially frontman and founder, Ray Benson, are absolutely awesome.

Some of these guys on the vehicles, especially the tracked vehicles (tanks) probably haven’t had a day off in a month leading up to this. Saw that shoulder patch of my old unit, 1st Cav, on at least two tank commanders. The sheer amount of fuckery involved in prepping those tanks, rail shipping them from Texas, and getting them on that parade route would send most civilians screaming.
I just hope the officers give the troops tomorrow off to explore the Capital and see the Mall and what’s there. Most of those troops will never have another chance.

Watching the parade watchers, it looks like all the young men want to be the parade participants and all the young ladies want to be with the parade participants. Just as God intended.
The video of Trump at Ft. Bragg and the show they put on for him — as well as the clever recruiting — made me wonder who wouldn’t want to be part of that?! The U.S. Army is BACK!!
Now, ahem, let’s work on our marching skills, guys! Too many units in total disarray; bobbing and shuffling past the review stand. Eff! Eff! Eff Rot Eff!
Dr. Hambone, my best friend and I hitchhiked from Portland to San Francisco in August 1972 about 3 weeks before I joined the Navy. One of the nights we ended up in People’s Park in Bezerkley and the next day there was a free concert in People’s Park with Asleep At the Wheel, Country Joe and The Fish singing the fish cheer (eff Nixon) and Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods. For me Asleep At the Wheel was the best part of that concert and one of the highlights of our hitchhiking trip to San Francisco. I love good country swing music and especially Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys.
I agree that the parade was kind of disappointing. There needed to be explosions and tanks doing burnouts. Firing squads for the Jan 6th committee. Low flying helicopters chasing down and strafing activist judges. But those criticizing this have never attended any military parade. You think the Russian and Chinese parades are any better? (I do like those Chinese girls in short skirts).
It was all right, I guess, but I used less military hardware much more effectively.
