Maui brush fire burns 330 acres, 93% contained

KAHIKINUI (HawaiiNewsNow) – A wildfire that broke out in southeast Maui Sunday morning has burned 330 acres, Maui County officials said.

As of 7 p.m., officials said the fire was 93% contained and are lifting the evacuation orders.

The Maui Police Department has temporarily reopened Piilani Highway.

Officials said the highway will close again on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from mile markers 20 to 41 for firefighting equipment and work.

No injuries or structural damages have been reported. more

  1. I feel bad for the officials there not having any water near them that they could desalinate and use to put out fires and stuff.

    I wonder how Lahaina is doing? I don’t see much about that fire recovery anymore.
