“Gaslighting” — mind manipulating, grossly misleading, downright deceitful — is Merriam-Webster’s word of the year.

Lookups for the word on merriam-webster.com increased 1,740% in 2022 over the year before. But something else happened. There wasn’t a single event that drove significant spikes in the curiosity, as it usually goes with the chosen word of the year.

The gaslighting was pervasive. More

  1. “gaslighting was pervasive because everybody were throwing the term around. The right was using it to accurately describe what was happening everywhere, and the left was using it to, um…pretty much project their gaslighting onto the right.

  2. You really have to see the film; it’s a hoot.
Charles Boyer tries to convince Ingrid Bergman she’s losing her mind.

  3. Hey Merriam-Webster. Thanks for catching up. Conservatives have been using the term since the first Obama administration. Then the second Obama administration and now his third shadow administration AKA Biden I.

For a supposedly erudite monitor of the art of language your a disappointment and best, but coconspirators is more accurate.

The movie Gaslight came out in 1944. Some 78 years ago. Thanks for keeping us up with current events.

You’re the buggy whip of modernity.

  4. M-W should start finding a “Phrase of the Year” which we’re all too familiar with, such as “an abundance of caution” or “game-changer”. Those tiresome, repetitive, lazy phrases are truly annoying, but there’s one that’s worse, and of course, Kamala had to use it: “make a plan”…Democrats are always telling their morons to “make a plan” to do everything: get jabbed, apply for a student loan, get jabbed again. apply for unemployment, get boosted…all these and more require the morons to “make a plan”.

Come on Democrats, your morons are incapable of planning, so stop flattering them and pretending they will “make a plan”. Just send a goon around with the paperwork or scare the shit out of them so they run screaming to the doctor, but don’t make me listen to you telling them to “make a plan”. They can’t even make a bed.

And here’s a hint: if Kamala is saying it, it’s all played out. Get a new jingle.

  5. It’s OK PHenry; use of “your” instead of the proper “you’re” pretty much discredits the person using it anyway
