Pelosi names Cheney to panel investigating Jan. 6 riot – McCarthy Says Acceptance Will Have Consequences

Of course she would.

Look at Kinzinger celebrating.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday named Republican Rep. Liz Cheney and seven Democrats to a new select committee to investigate the violent Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, will lead the panel. It will investigate what went wrong around the Capitol when hundreds of supporters of then-President Donald Trump broke into the building, hunted for lawmakers and interrupted the congressional certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory.

Cheney, R-Wyo., said in a statement that she is “honored” to serve on the committee and that “Congress is obligated to conduct a full investigation of the most serious attack on our Capitol since 1814.”

The House approved the panel on Wednesday over the objections Republicans. Cheney, who was removed from GOP leadership this year because of her criticism of Trump, was one of only two Republicans who supported forming the committee.

McCarthy Responded Swiftly-

McCarthy threatens to strip GOP members of committee assignments if they accept an offer from Pelosi to serve on 1/6 commission

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday issued a blanket threat during a meeting with freshmen members of his caucus that he would strip any Republican member of their committee assignments if they accept an offer from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on the select committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection, according to two GOP sources with knowledge of the matter.

McCarthy’s threat comes after the House voted to establish the committee. Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois were the only two Republican members to vote in favor of its formation. It’s not yet clear whether Pelosi will appoint Republicans to the commission, but the threat from McCarthy underscores how he feels about any members accepting an offer from the Democrats to serve on the committee.

Punchbowl News was first to report McCarthy’s threat.

  1. Republicans made a mistake not supporting this commission. I understand the Democrats motives, but Republicans could have (and still can) turn the tables on them.

Bringing EVERYTHING to light regarding 1/6 is a good thing.

  2. Maybe the Republicans don’t want anything to do with it precisely because they would be expected to bring truth to the table.

I’m cynical but I’ve earned it.

  3. I heard that on the radio this morning, her hubris will be her undoing. She is no match in a war of wits against the man who got more legitimate votes for President of the United States than any other candidate in history.

  4. Adam Kinzinger is a RINO, just another blessing from corrupt illinois just like:
    JB Pritzker
    Barry Soetoro
    Lori Lightfoot
    Rod Blagojevich
    George Ryan
    Dan Rostenkowski
    Mel Reynolds
    Dan Walker

Don’t you dare think anything Kinzinger does will have a positive effect on our country.
Cheney speaks for herself just like the rest of her fellow demoncrats

  5. Democrats love it when Democrats who pose as Republicans side with them so they can say, these Republicans agree!
    Only fools believe them.

  8. President Trump will make sure Cheney loses her seat in Congress.
She’ll have to work full-time for the military-industrial complex along with her old man.
