  1. ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS ABOUT TRUMP IS THAT HIS CONTINUED SUCCESS FORCES AMERICA TO FACE THE QUESTION:

WHAT THE FCUK DID JOEKER BIDEN DO???

  2. @NIdaho,

Without getting into the history I thought the period of wage & price freezes was that period.

This “might” be better if the U.S. govt insists that the domestic price be lower than the worldwide “best price.” Which is the Medicaid approach, which can reduce the scope of available treatments…can you say formulary? How about orphaned drug?

Ideal world, my cash for service is at or below the insurance plans’ “negotiated rate” for any medical service or supplies. But haven’t had that work out so far.

  3. EVERY TIME IN HISTORY where price controls have been tried there has been untold suffering and massive unintended consequences. There are SERIOUSLY BROKEN ASPECTS of our medical system, and GOVERNMENT is 100% at the root of EVERY ONE. BigPharma is a protected cartel that also is forced to spend massive sums on FDA complianc that no other nation requires. They are protected from real competition by the FDA, including imprisoning anyone who attempts to promote natural solutions to medical problems they profit from. The problems are endless. FREEDOM will fix this, not price controls. What consequences will everyone face will be seen.

  4. Price controls? I didn’t notice any statement on price controls.

The point can be argued. But I see the insistence that the largest customer base be given the lowest price they offer other “customers”. The Pharma companies are still free to pick any price they think the market will bear.

  5. As an example, the minimum wage is a government price control (to the low end). Just look at its consequences. The FED, NOT the market, sets the price of money (interest). Just look at the consequences (for both too loose and too tight). ONLY a free market of consumers and producers/sellers should be setting the price of ANYTHING. There is NOTHING about the medical/pharma/insurance marketplace that is anything remotely close to a free market.

  6. Where’s Congress in all of this? While I think Trump has his priorities right, I am a little concerned about governing by executive order. More than just drug prices, there are an awful lot of reforms needed in the health care industry that will likely bring down the prices of everything.

I understand that Congress is largely useless – Congress has frequently been useless. I also understand that Trump is frustrated – because Congress is largely useless. There are no qualifications to be a member of Congress other than minimum age requirements and an ability to bullshit your way into office; there are plenty of members of Congress who meet these criteria.

So what’s happening? Presidents govern by executive order, and usually the judiciary ends up getting involved – Congress is ignored. To be clear, I don’t necessarily blame Trump for this; we are the ones who elect these useless and frequently incompetent jack-jaws to Congress.

  7. Funny how the drug companies have done their own price controls. I suppose the virtual monopoly could be busted up if you’re willing to trust bureaucrats to get the job done. Is this an opening handwave that will lead into something real? Only time will tell.
