I always thought he’d be fun to spend a day with. He was a local boy born in Bridge City, Texas. You’d darn sure want him on your side in a bar fight.
Larry Holmes wasn’t a flashy fighter like Ali, he was workmanlike. But he had one of the best left jabs I’ve ever seen. He could set an opponent back on his heels with that jab.
Best left jab in the biz belonged to Tommy Morison. Unfortunately he couldn’t deal with the fame. Drugs and alcohol wrecked his life.
After all these years I’m still annoyed by Howard Cosell.
That was pretty good. He’s a good sport. Gotta be a strong fucker to go 15 rounds with Larry Holmes.
He was also great in Raising Arizona.
