  1. Oh sh*t!

If this happened in the US, our hero would be jailed for multiple felony violations of EPA codes. No kidding.

  2. Ever see a garbage truck load catch fire?

The common practice is to dump the load as soon as it’s noticed. Save the truck, then clean up!

  3. I assumed it was an ALFA ROMEO when I heard “Fire” and “Septic tank”

My Dad has one and I know!

  4. Different Tim, does anybody but old guys and gals even know who John Cameron Swayze was? And does anyone even have a real old school analog wristwatch anymore? This also gives a whole new meaning to POS which is what that car is now after a septic tank cleanup.

  5. The car was gone, anyway. Now there are two smelly messes to clean up!
The clown driving the truck was pouring his brains all over it.

…true, but we had one where the fire burned through the truck hydraulics before it was noticed, so they couldn’t dump the load. It was burning deep inside the compactor section where we couldn’t penetrate with hoses and since it wasn’t showing flame to the outside we didn’t want to shut a city street down to dig it out, so we had an engineer drive it to the dump with a truck company following closely and police clearing the way, where they had some large piece of what I can only describe as construction equipment that just picked the whole truck up and shook the load out of it like a terrier on a poodle, and we put the fire out on the grounds of the dump after they lowered the truck again.

Dumps do not smell nice, but the DO have some awesome equipment, and you REALLY don’t need to worry about making a mess there…

(this was in 19dickety5. I’m sure they have some goofy groundwater regulations now that would make this somehow illegal, but the world wasn’t completely insane then…
