Who wants to see the Apollo 11 astronauts sculpted out of butter?
I sure do!!!
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The annual butter cow display blasted off Tuesday at the Ohio State Fair.
This year’s theme pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
The butter display captures historic moments from the July 1969 mission when astronauts first landed on the moon and took steps on its surface.
A full-scale sculpture of Ohio native Neil Armstrong standing next to the lunar module Eagle and saluting the American flag is among the iconic images recreated in butter.
The display also features a butter sculpture of the entire spacecraft crew: commander Neil Armstrong, lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin and command module pilot Michael Collins.

“That’s one small pat for a man, one giant tub for mankind.”
I Got Popcorn, lobsters and clams. Goes great with melted butter.
Wouldn’t green cheese have been most appropriate?
Everybody knows the moon is made of Swiss cheese and astronauts are made of the right stuff.
A vision in creamy yellow from my childhood. Da butter cow! Iām so happy that they still do this every year at the Ohio State Fair!! A must see…really it is! š š
I hate to see the Apollo 11 astronauts margerinalized!
…sorry, but you brought up butter sculptures at the Ohio State Fair, so I HAVE to contribute THIS…

Supernightshade, that was irreverently funny!
Glad you liked it, @Claudia, I DID say I’d try to make you laugh at times…
…just so you know, it burned because of a lightning strike (you can see the storm still in progress in the video), and it was -NOT- pretty. I know the Bible suggests He walked the Earth as a rather plain-looking man (else the Romans would not have NEEDED Judas’ help to identify Him), but it does NOT say he was UGLY.
…THAT sculpture kind of, well, WAS.
I’ll put a link to it at the bottom.
…if you asked local ministers after the fire what they thought about it (and I did), most would say something along the lines of, “I don’t want to be unkind, but maybe it was because the Lord passed judgement on that image. ”
…they did a second one that stands today. It’s not as terrible, but also not as noticable. Also, it has a lighting rod. I’ll put THAT one at the bottom, too.
…if you want FURTHER irreverent humor, just search “Big Butter Jesus Meme”. Some folks can be pretty creative, but I bet the iOTW crew could TOP them…
Enjoy.
God Bless,
