South Carolina’s Play To Nullify Tariffs In 1832 Failed Spectacularly. Newsom’s Will Too

Federalist:
Gavin Newsom is dusting off John C. Calhoun’s playbook from 1832, arguing his state can nullify federal law.

Oh, the irony! California Gov. Gavin Newsom, the gel-haired darling of the left, has decided to play President Andrew Jackson’s foil in a modern-day Nullification Crisis. His lawsuit to block President Donald Trump’s tariffs — filed with all the fanfare of a Hollywood premiere — smacks of South Carolina’s 1832 tantrum over federal tariffs. Back then, the Palmetto State tried to nullify federal law, claiming it could pick and choose which national policies applied.

Newsom, it seems, fancies himself a latter-day John C. Calhoun, strutting onto the national stage with a States’ Powers swagger. The only problem? He’s reading from a script debunked by history, law, and common sense. more

  1. If there isn’t a wise saying that “elected leaders are only as corrupt and stupid as voters allow them to be”, there ought to – because it sure applies to Newsom and California voters.

  2. ^^^^ Really? Here’s the problem with that bull shit. California has not had a fare election since Pete Wilson. It’s all fixed. California politicians are appointed. Remember, fag boy Newsom has faced two recalls and both times the courts stepped in and saved his ass. We need Trumps voter overhaul badly in this state. Before the midterms. Cali will go red.

  3. It’s amazing me that Greasy Gavin can point his finger of blame at the “greedy” oil companies for the high price of gas while democRATs act like Beavis and Butthead collectively giggling Yeah, heh heh, Yeah, heh heh… when all they have to do is go to another state (preferably red) and buy gas for almost half the price.
Well when Greasy Gavin can get away with something that basic why not lie about everything else! Talk about dumbed down!
