Dallas Express:
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 54 other attorneys general have reached a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family over their role in fueling the opioid crisis.
The agreement, which includes all eligible states and U.S. territories, marks the nation’s largest settlement to date with individuals responsible for the “opioid epidemic.” more
Let’s see.
$7,400,000,000 (settlement) / 347,000,000 (U.S. population) = $21.33.
Do I get any of that? I figure after govt rake-off I should see maybe ten or twelve cents.
Good. Sakler family sux.
I Texas’ share of US population is about 1/10, can DOJ come to a settlement of $74B?
Don’t forget the liars – lawyers fees.
I hope I can still get pain meds if I really need them! I got oxy prescribed 3 times so far. I was very grateful for the first 1 or 2 pills. The rest got tossed – but I have self control.
The big losers will be the people that actually suffer from chronic pain like cancer patients. Holding companies liable for criminal misuse leads us down a bit of a slippery slope, are auto manufacturers to be held liable for high speed crashes? It is easy to see where an activist campaign against any consumer product can lead to increased costs, just look at lawnmowers where most of the cost is insurance in case an idiot decides mowing barefoot is a good idea.
