You may never have heard of the soulful performer, Bobby Caldwell (1951-2023), but you’ve enjoyed his signature piece. A lot of people tend to lose their minds at about the 36 second mark on his music video of his big hit. Watch

There’s Rick-Rolled, and now…Bobby-Socked?
Cheer up my brother. For many I thought Dobie Gray was white.

Cheer up my brother. For many years, I thought Dobie Gray was white.

Never a truer statement has been made. It conflated image with talent and utterly frustrated getting some of the top talent in music the recognition it deserved.
I was expecting something totally different.
Now if his name had been Quintavious Jefferson…
Thirdtwin: wow! I played that on the radio when it was a hit and I had no idea.
Dusty Springfield
Black friends of mine all have Dusty in Memphis
When I was a kid I thought the Righteous Brothers were Black.
I guess they’ve never listened to the Bee Gee’s. I think they were white, right?
Just lost a big ass comment. Damn it. I posted a bunch of bands that might sound black. But I listen to a shit load of black artist that are awesome. Why is this a racial thing? I don’t get it. My fav R and B guy.

Just a thought for Bad_Brad: it’s a racial thing because a certain race has made it a racial thing to pump up the pride. And what happens after pride? Perhaps the fall can lead to humility?

I think you are probably right. That doesn’t speak much towards their confidence as an artist. I read that last month was the first time a RAP, Wrap, song wasn’t in the top ten for downloads or sales. There’s hope after all.
The pendulum always swings.
For a second I thought it was Bobby Caldwell the drummer, he played with Johnny Winter and Captain Beyond among others. Bobby Caldwell the singer is good too.
Haven’t heard “What You Won’t Do For Love” in a long time. Beautiful song – love it.
For a lot of black people, this is a “I remember where I was moment” when they found out Bobby Caldwell is white. LOL! It was the early eighties for me. He was a guest on some music show. I was pleasantly surprised and thought, that’s one sexy white guy. He was an extremely talented, gifted musical artist no matter what his ethnicity.
Enjoy watching younger generations of black libtards watch their racist narrative blown up by reality watching a singer like Caldwell defy stereotypes.
I can remember when Michael Jackson was black.
…and who can forget Play That Funky Music White Boy?
The part I enjoy most was no whining about cultural appropriation, just artistic appreciation which is much more enjoyable to watch.
Saw him live in Minneapolis when this song was popular. Great show. Did some Frank Sinatra stuff also. Supposedly died from reactions to the clot shot!
I thought he was black but it didn’t bother me at all. I still like(d) the song.
I’m surprised none of them was offended that a white boy sounds like them.
Here is Mr. Caldwell performing his hit song years later. This has got to be the absolute best version. It’s off the charts. Excellent!;
