Thom Tillis Not Running for Reelection

CBS News

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina announced Sunday that he won’t seek reelection in 2026, hours after President Trump threatened to back a primary challenge against him for refusing to support the “big, beautiful bill.”

“It’s not a hard choice, and I will not be seeking re-election,” Tillis said in a statement Sunday. He noted that he hasn’t “been excited about running for another term,” citing the choice between “spending another six years navigating the political theatre and partisan gridlock in Washington” or spending time with his family. 1. Since he’d already decided to not run, he was emboldened to vote against the bill, unaccountable to voters.
This would be the unintended consequence if we were foolish enough to enact term limits.

  2. Great news! Glad Tillis is out of the running. Besides being a reprehensible, across the aisle reaching RINO, Tillis’ legacy is being an opportunistic narcissist regardless of party.
He knew his chances of getting reelected was slim, so he decided to pander to NC Democrats by promoting and voting for the bloated, taxpayer burdening NC Medicaid Expansion program for their votes in 2026. Instead, of going with the flow of the popular MAGA wave, his narcissistic pride was more important. That works in North Carolina’s favor despite what he believes.
Not sure there is a MAGA replacement for Tillis, but very sure President Trump will find someone who can come close. At least North Carolina has one great MAGA senator, Ted Budd. He’s a loyal supporter of President Trump.

    What will be his legacy?

I’m sure that as far as he’s personally concerned, the only legacy that matters is the several million graft and insider trading dollars he’s got stashed in an offshore bank. Typical RINO pig.

  4. But instead of retiring immediately he’s going to stick around until next year to inflict as much damage as possible on the country. He has a war chest of 2.2 million dollars, which I’m sure he’ll take home with him as well as the tens of millions most of them salt away before they finish.

  5. He’ll get a job on the board of directors of a major defense contractor and will take a shot at running for president in 2028. He will fail. But he will make a ton of money.
