LifeZette: President to meet Peña Nieto, Trudeau as first step towards fulfilling major campaign pledge.
President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he would be meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to discuss the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
While attending the swearing-in ceremony for 30 White House staff members Sunday, the 45th president signaled his commitment to following through on one of his key campaign promises — renegotiating the “disastrous” trade deal set between Canada, Mexico, and the United States in 1994.
“We’re also meeting with the prime minister of Canada, and we will be meeting with the president of Mexico, who I know, and we’re going to start negotiations having to do with NAFTA,” Trump said. “Anyone ever hear of NAFTA? I ran a campaign somewhat based on NAFTA.”
Trudeau will be meeting with his Cabinet Monday to begin discussing how to approach the Trump administration’s desire to renegotiate NAFTA immediately.
“There’s no realistic way we’re going to renegotiate a NAFTA deal that’s better for Canada,” said John Baird, a former Canadian foreign minister who now serves a senior adviser with international law firm Bennett Jones LLP, Bloomberg reported. “People have to understand this isn’t just the American president. The American public has moved substantially to this stance.” more here
Nothing symbolic about the Obummercare ex order.
Great, we have Trudeau the Younger, the idiot Prime Minister representing Canada facing a Trump who doesn’t suffer fools gladly and will wring out the best possible deal for the US. The problem with NAFTA was we let the Mexicans in. When it was the US-Canada Free Trade Act it was good for both sides as both countries were functioning democracies, respected each other and were close in terms of per capita income, consumer spending and goals and aspirations. When Mexico joined there was none of that and all kind of allowances were made for them, as well, both Canada and the US companies sought ways to export jobs to Mexico where they paid peanuts to their workers. I just hope that Trump looks at the Canada-US agreement signed by Reagan and Mulroney to see the advantages that were gained when Canada and the US negotiated.
Gas prices and NAFTA raised produce costs quicker than they would have.
He’s done more in his first full day than Obama did in eight years. Something tells me President Trump’s daily schedule is going to be so jam-packed it will print out to several pages.
Whereas Obama’s looked like this:
10:00 Daily Brief
12:00 Lunch with Joe Biden
1:00 Clock out
Dianny, you should change 1:00 to
1:00 Tee Time
@Dianny; Tailgunner; Don’t forget his daily “Reggie Time”. That 10 minutes each day he spent reviewing the er, polls.
Ah yes!
Hey everybody, Mexico’s President just said that he believes in bridges, not walls. He forgot to mention that he believes in bridges as long as they only go one way from Mexico into America (he does also, however, apparently believe in that wall that Mexico erected on it’s southern border)!
So apparently, Obummer left his pen and phone for Trump.
So how smart is the left feeling now that they find out the whole Pen and Phone thing works both ways!
Mix that with a President who understands how to actually “Do Work” and see what happens you lefty bitches!
