Two Mexican nationals were arrested in Colorado last month after authorities found them transporting 180,000 rounds of ammunition during a traffic stop, federal officials have announced.
Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis, 41, and Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira, 24, were pulled over on March 26th in Cañon City, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Colorado.
Detectives from Fremont County stopped their white Chevrolet van after it failed to dim its headlights, didn’t signal a turn, and had a broken license plate light, according to an arrest affidavit. more
I’m guessing they were more than simply avid hunters.
They probably bought them at a steep discount from one of our federal agencies. Obama bought billions of rounds, trying to dry up the market of private purchases. I’m sure there are warehouses overflowing with unneeded ammo.
Amateurs…
Those infractions do not warrant the stop, the arrest, or the seizure of property and were thus made illegally. They must be released from custody immediately and all confiscated property returned.
Was USAID stamped on the boxes?
There is a lot of unanswered questions here. How did they get into the country with that much cash? They came in and bought a van then went to a ammo dealer to buy 180,000 rds and were headed to Colorado to get another van for more ammo or guns maybe? I’m smelling a deep state ops. Either to plan an operation against someone or to make a big deal on how easy it is to get your hands on a lot of ammo and laws need to be passed to stop it.

I wish I could have been there to seize some of that ammo into the back of my own vehicle.
It would mean that I’d have to buy a new gun for one of those calibers, but I wouldn’t mind.
They almost made it to Aurora…
Student visas?
They were on their way to shoot some cans –
Beer cans, soda cans, afri cans, mexi cans…
if it is illegal for them to own it, how were they able to buy it, and how did they pay for it?
something smells
it is either a legit bust, or a setup for tracking financial transactions related to guns and ammo.
could be either, or maybe even both
good thing their spark of divinity didn’t light up the load.
Other than .22 rimfire, I’m not sure any single gun shop would have that much of a single caliber in stock at one time.
Too bad Paul Harvey isn’t around, we might get the rest of the story.
I wonder if the Mexican government wants these two returned unharmed and with the ammo so they can sue the US ammunition manufacturers for making it so easy to acquire large amounts of ammo to transport to Mexico.
Why don’t the cartels ask their friends (China) for weapons and ammunition when they bring in shiploads of meth.
GREAT! Now do the IRS and the USPS.
