US picks Raytheon unit to develop anti-hypersonic missile

AMN: Tucson-based Raytheon Missiles & Defense is one of three companies picked to develop concepts for the nation’s first interceptor designed to destroy a new generation of super-fast missiles.

Raytheon said the weapon, called Glide Phase Interceptor or GPI, will defeat rapidly evolving hypersonic missiles — weapons that travel more than five times the speed of sound and maneuver rapidly in flight.

The Missile Defense Agency awarded prototyping contracts of varying amounts to Raytheon and rivals Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman to develop the GPI, as the Pentagon looks to speed the development of both offensive and defensive hypersonic capabilities in response to aggressive hypersonics test programs mounted by China and Russia.

Raytheon was awarded a contract with a total value of just under $20 million, with $8 million initially obligated to develop its GPI concept in Tucson and Huntsville, Alabama, with completion of the contract expected in September 2022, according to a Pentagon contract notice. more

  1. Anyone want to check if Pelosi bought just in front of this announcement?

So far she has seriously out performed Buffet, Ackman & many other heavyweights.

  2. Sadly, even though Ratheon is at the forefront of this, they are also in the forefront to the ideals of:
    Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

I am not against Ratheon. I have a couple of good friends that work there, enjoy it and make good money. I have a problem with defense contractors who appear to be more interested in catering to arbitrary standards from the woke community than in actually protecting our great nation (see current DoD priorities)

  3. Are you kidding me? 20m when gov is paying $450,000 to illegal kids? That’s insulting. I ain’t great at math, but that like 400 illegal kids stipends.

    Correct my math.

  4. Sorry. When numbers get this large they become incomprehensible. That’s on purpose. 20,000,000 divided by 450,000 per illegal child equals 44.4 illegal children get as much money as a new missile defense system?

Again. Check my math. I might have dropped a zero here or there.

  5. And how long until biden gives the chinese the blueprints?
Some of the assholes in this country deserve what we’re getting, but we are done as a nation.

  6. Full disclosure. I dumped my Raytheon stock when Trump was overthrown in the coup.
    I did handsomely.

    But $20m is chump change.

  7. Just build gigantic billboards of Maxine Water’s image near all probable targets in the US. Her butt-ugly mug could stop a speeding freight train.

  8. The checks they use to send to us read Raytheon Missile And Space. Hence RMS. They might have structurally changed to Missile and Defense, but I doubt it. The Tucson facility is the old Hughes building. At one time the building with the largest square foot under one roof. They fucked us big. Made CNN back in the day when it happened. Like I say, spineless bitches can kiss my ass.

  9. Well, at least now we know who backed Hunter Biden’s transferring of the hypersonic technology to the chinks!

Develop a “critical threat.” Pretend to fix it. Get paid. Enormously.

  10. Yes, Tim. Try to start a concern by releasing the enemy surprise… But, FJB, aren’t you telling us China is not our enemy?
