While the rest of the US has seen gas prices stabilize or drop compared to last year, Washington stands alone: it’s the only state where gasoline prices are higher than they were at this time in 2024.

“You are literally the only state that is above where it was one year ago,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, told The Center Square.

According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gas in Washington on June 18, 2024, was about $4.35. This year, on the same date, it had climbed to nearly $4.41 per gallon — an increase of six cents, bucking national trends. Experts point to a perfect storm of global instability, regional refinery issues, and state-specific policies as reasons why Washington drivers are paying more. more

  1. 95% of the motor vehicle fuel taxes collected are pissed away on bullshit. There is absolutely no interest in preservation and maintenance of existing pavement and other transportation infrastructure anywhere in the Puget Sound metropolitan region and Spokane is as bad.

    In Tacoma they passed a ten year $320M initiative to “bring maintenance and preservation” current after three decades of “deferred maintenance.” There are more lane miles of failed and failing pavement than in 2015 before they got that revenue. The money was almost all siphoned off and redirected to fund new bike lanes, multi use paths that are functioning more or less liner drug dealing and sex trafficking strip malls and other bullshit.

    There has been zero linear feet of pavement crack cleaning and sealing or vegetation abatement other than to prepare for chip sealing of pavement that truly needed to be overlaid. The governor appoints the grant scoring committee members and/or Puget Sound Regional Council administrators it and they make it so that the only projects that get funded are woke boondoggles. The rural counties and suburban cities and small towns need to hire Urban Planners with a degree from the University of Washington Urban Planning School in order to submit applications that will qualify or be considered for any funding and that is how they use federal transportation dollars coming into Washington to push the most virulent leftist agitators out into every community in the State.

    It is a scandal and a disgrace is what it is.

When I went to Montana a couple weeks ago I stopped for the night in CDA and stayed at Motel 6, ate at Elmers a half block away and filled up my outfit at Costco two blocks from Elmers and got back on I-90. Had I gassed up at Costco in the Spokane Valley ~25 miles earlier gas was ~ $125/gallon more expensive.

    This is out and out theft. This State is in the grips of progressive/Marxist/Satanists and it is that way with every last revenue source they have access to. I just got notified that fishing and hunting license fees are going up 35% next year. Little or none of any money they get already is spent on legitimate programs.

  3. The Trump Administration needs to cut off any and all federal money coming into this state immediately and also get in here and start investigating the corruption taking place. Each and every “blue” jurisdiction has elected and appointed officials heavily invested in housing projects for drug addicts and illegal aliens that is paid for by tax payers. They are making a killing off of flooding them in here.

I am not too happy with our gas prices in eastern Wash. right now> The avg price in Spokane is anywhere from $3.80 a gal. for regular to 4 bucks which is why I will drive the drive 20 min. or so to Post Falls for gas which averages 3 and a quarter a gallon. This is friggin ridiculous and a sham and I hear with the new carbon tax which is bullshit it’s gonna go even higher soon. I love eastern Wash. but I hate the out of control state govt. in Olympia.
