@Tosk – there is actually a movement toward ‘dumb phones’. There are a variety, the general point being that you don’t have apps on them. And you can link your iPhone or Galaxy or whatever to one, so you just have one phone number but can switch between ‘smart’ and ‘dumb’ phones.

Bring back dumb appliances and dumb vehicles. Cheaper and more reliable. Give people a choice!

I think this is why there is a renewed appeal of old, restored autos, too. No electronics to break (and they all break). And the cost to fix everything is astronomical. I’d rather have a restored older vehicle than a new one.

I miss the old (manual) car windows that could adjust the opening without the danger of decapitation.

A friend of a friend of mine, in the 1970’s, worked at a Foto-Mat near Hollywood. She made extra copies of the film and music star’s photos when they dropped their film off for processing. I saw some of her impressive collection. Just movie stars and musicians taking the same kinds of mundane pictures as the rest of us; nothing silly, embarrassing or scandalous. It may have been they were aware that a minimum wage high school kid would be processing their film and keeping an extra copy or two for themselves.

Geni — Yup! I’ve got my eyes on an early ’60’s Cadillac S Series convertible. Caddy white with a red interior. It probably has a 30 gallon gas tank and costs more to fill up than a 1961 monthly mortgage payment!

@Tosk @Dan I’m really tempted to get one of those cellular rotary phones. No apps, no camera, and there’s a manual hardware switch on the mic so that it can’t be turned on remotely to listen to you.

@Geni And you didn’t need to turn on the car to open or close the windows.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m feeling the urge to yell at people to get off my lawn.

Best thing about older cars is no check engine light.

In today’s social climate the “Check Engine” light may come on because it’s feeling triggered and needs a hug… but only in CA and WA.
Tesla’s version lights up and displays “Walk Mfer”

Had to retire my trusty3G Nokia.
Now using a $40.00 flip phone. (Works pretty good.)
My ’69 Beetle is still running strong.

I would love to buy a good quality old school type 35 MM camera and film never did master the transition to digital
Now do old school phones.
