Where’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s apology for attacking Hawaii’s beloved leper saint, grossly offending Hawaiians?

American Thinker: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who’s never at a loss for words, seems to have let the cat get her tongue over her amazing insult to Hawaii’s patron saint and most beloved figure of honor, Father Damien of Molokai.

That’s the 19th century Belgian priest who came the islands, learned the Hawaiian language, lived like a pauper, and spent his life caring for people with leprosy on the remote island of Molokai, before catching the disease and dying of it himself. The native Hawaiians loved him as an emblem of their Aloha spirit and honored him with a statue alongside King Kamehameha I as their state emblems inside the capitol.

Not an issue for the far-left wokester congresswoman, who singled Father Damien out as a ‘colonizer’ and an example of ‘white supremacy’ on an Instagram tour of all the bad things about America:

. @AOC calls the statue in the US capitol building of Father Damien, a canonized saint in the Catholic Church, a part of “white supremacist culture.” Father Damien died of leprosy after spending his life serving others who had the disease.

See, pure wokesterliness – if someone’s white, it’s obviously because of white supremacy, never mind the particulars. White, colonizer, that’s all there is to it.

And for that, she got a gale wind of blowback from grossly offended Hawaiians (America’s least-white state) and all kinds of people who actually know the story of Father Damien and what he means to Hawaiians.

The Week, which is a center-left mainstream publication, had a devastating takedown of this fool, in an excellent piece titled “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez picked the wrong statue to criticize.” MORE

  1. AoC’s saving grace is she has absolutely no idea what she’s talking about.
In some medical circles the condition is referred to as diarrhea of the mouth.

  2. Utterly despicable

Somewhere, within a ten foot radius of me are two biographies of Saint Father Damien of Molokai. I revisited Fr Damien last year, the bitch is out of her ever loving mind.

Every once in a while I get around to putting books I have finished back in my library… only about every couple years though.

  3. I am none too happy with the RCC lately with the crazy pope in charge. I’m not a Catholic but I recognize the great things that have been done for 2,000 years by the church (along with the far fewer bad things). What Fr. Damien did was remarkable. Putting your life on the line for others is the highest point of the Christian faith.

I know some things about him and his biography would indeed be very interesting.

  4. “ The big problem is tone of getting the message out.”

The big problem is ONE of getting the message out. DAMN AUTOCORRECT.

  5. This the type of horseshit that is typical of the leadership collectively and establishment progressive element that has infiltrated The Church

AOC is the future of the Catholic Church

They are not Catholic, they are for the most part not even Christian. They are Marxists and therefore materialists by default. They are infiltrators hell bent on destroying The Church from within.

  7. I remember seeing a made for TV movie about Father Damian from the early 80’s. That is only reason before that I had ever heard of father Damian. AOC is a blithering idiot who needs to keep her mouth shut, she doesn’t know anything about God or the Catholic religion and is an embarrassment to idiots every time she opens her mouth. Hopefully her constituents have enough sense to get rid of her come the November election, but I doubt it.

  8. This is exactly the bullshit that feeds the racism in Hawaii. What Willis? Racism in Hawaii? Hell yes and the worst I encountered and I have been there numerous times, have spent a lot of time on all of the islands, was on Molokai.

Molokai was pretty cool, no building over 2 stories and no cruise ships allowed(hate those things). Gorgeous water and deserted beaches.

But the dislike of whites and the perceived destruction of the their “way of life” was so palpable on Molokai you could cut it with a knife. And seeing this crap only fuels it.

I loved the islands, the water, weather and the fish are unbelievable. But you just get tired of the crusty looks and lack of courtesy. I didn’t have the money for some reclusive back island spot on Oahu, it’s ridiculously expensive. In fact I liked the “tourista” Maui the best anyway but in the end, nope.

  9. May AoC be punished appropriately by the goddess Pele.
(and now, I’m putting on my asbestos clothes)

  10. There was a book in our house when I was a kid about Fr Damien, entitled “Damien Among The Lepers” I remember the nuns at my grade school told us about him in second grade. So he was very well known among Catholics at one time

So basically, most Catholics my age knew more about Fr Damien as the age of seven than AOC did as an …. “adult”

Seeing as how Alexa Occasionally Catholic is supposedly Catholic, I dont think that speaks well of our parochial school system
