9. Ten years ago I worked for a company that got a lucrative government contract by being a “woman/minority owned business”. What that meant was that the white guy who was the chief operating officer was married to the Hispanic woman who was the “Owner, President, and CEO”, and her job responsibilities amounted to exactly bupkis. Her only job was to be a woman or minority and to let her white male husband run the business in her stead.

10. The most interesting thing about that woman owned set aside is that it never happened. I live on that board. I’m quoting now. I see 8a, minority owned, Hud economic disadvantaged, and the most prevalent, Service Disabled Vet, where they do nothing and collect 10%. I’m not going to bitch about that I guess. But I’ve never seen a Woman Owned Set Aside. Which is misnamed. It doesn’t need to be woman Owned. 55% of the decisions made inside the cooperate entity need to be made by woman. That’s the criteria. Early on we were going to put the shares in the wifes name. But there was no point. I guess the Feds hate women too.
