  1. I think Bill Gates has been funding Bennett’s latest battle with the slot machines at the dog track. I wonder if the private school his grand kids go to is using it.

  2. Tell that to my 5th grader who still hasn’t memorized his multiplication table. Common core doesn’t teach to memorize 7×7=49. They want to draw 7 circles and put 7 lines in each circle and then start counting the lines to get the answer. Not only does it not scale for shit with larger numbers, it’s holding back the kids from actually KNOWING the math. Like the good parents we are, we sit down with him and go over the table to help him memorize it, but since it’s not reinforced in actual school it becomes an uphill battle.

  3. Secretary of Education: Another expensive and worthless gummit position that needs to go away. Mothers who only have HS diplomas show up at School Board meetings, protesting loudly about Commie Core. Bill Bennett hasn’t examined CC more than these young mothers and then he tries to come off as some kind of expert?

  4. Many many moons ago Bennett was very credible.
Today he sounds like an overfed, lifelong, BUREAUCRAT.
(throw in his old gambling problem and its easy to believe that he’s saying what someone tells him to say)

Governor Abbott did a GREAT job standing firm in yesterday’s debate imo.

  5. Bill Bennett has blinders on. He sees CC as a standard only and each state being in control of the content. That is not true.

I am in the education standardization industry. My focus is in the writing portion of the tests. When he says it’s only Math and Reading, he is misinformed.

CC has been broken up into 2 (that I know of) different consortiums and each have 15-20 states included. I have been involved in only one of them for the last two years. I won’t name it because I could be fired for talking about it, but I have this to say:

It is a liberal, progressive plan to indoctrinate their agenda into the children. Last year there was a concerted focus on spreading the global warming cult.

Now, I am encouraged that several states have pulled out of CC and this consortium because they found that the states do not have much say in the development of the tests.

However, the cancer that they started with is being continued because they are using the same content from CC, just making their own requirements for the scoring of these tests. That doesn’t mean in the future they won’t write their own tests and have better content. I hope they do.

  6. Is there a Czar opening in the Obama administration that Bill wants? Considering he was Education Czar in the Reagan administration one would think he would naturally be in opposition of Common Core. I guess he forgets his former boss’ famous quote about being from gov’t and here to help.

  7. We ought to ask Bill Bennett what the federal government is doing even getting involved with education and curriculum in the first place. I realize the Constitution doesn’t mean much any more, but the feds really have no authority to get involved in education.

  8. We had the best education system in the world BEFORE there ever was a Sec of Ed. People came from all over the world to attend our schools. Now high school graduates need remedial math and English just to get into community college.

Billions of dollars wasted with nothing to show for it.

  9. I have read some of his books, notably ‘America, the Last Best Hope,” and I have a lot of respect for him.

I disagree with his opinion of Commie Core.
    It will paralyze future generations.

  10. Considering the Democrats of Washington State have lodged a complaint with the [Liberal] State of Washington over the horrible badness of Commie Core, the degenerate gambler is due for more future embarrassment.
Definitely another worthless Zombie Pachyderm Party hack needing some money from the petty cash drawer to call off the sharks from breaking a limb or exposing some other closet secrets.
“Gotta go along to get along”…

  11. I have much respect for Dr. Bennett and listen to his radio show as often as I am able. He is a true conservative – not a RINO, but I think he’s wrong on Common Core.

  12. Gambling is not illegal, but Bennett did see it was not a good example and quit gambling after that. He also said he never gambled away the “milk money” and complied with all the reporting of his winning. I don’t see that this makes him a bad person. Perfect? No, but I’ve known people who DID gamble away the “milk money” and it’s a totally different situation.

  13. Aunt Liz

I’m not suggesting he’s a bad dude. It’s just a fact of life that those who deign to moralize will have their own little peccadilloes relentlessly exposed by our Leftist enemies.

Leftists don’t believe in personal standards. Its why accusing them of lacking any is always so ineffective.
