WTOP reports:
The debate over speed and red light cameras has landed in unusual company.
In the lame-duck session of Congress, two outgoing House Republicans have put forward a bill that would run the oft-reviled cameras out of town.
The Safer American Streets Act prohibits the “use of automated traffic enforcement systems in the District of Columbia.”
It specifically bans the use of the cameras and the information they obtain. more here
Obama will grant amnesty for the camera…if the camera has been here 5 years…and had 5 pixels…per shot
My small town has 6 intersections in the downtown area. We couldn’t afford a traffic camera. What ever that is. We probably have 200 cars in the whole county.
This is similar to what congress did when they wrote the laws for DC. They declared that only intercourse was “sex.” So when Bill Clinton said he didn’t have “sex” with that woman, Monica Lewinsky, he was telling the truth in a legal fashion. This was done so whenever anyone in congress was accused of adultery, they could claim, legally, that they didn’t cheat on their wives. Because a hummer doesn’t count. Nudge, nudge! Wink, wink!
These morons who authored this bill probably got caught driving without a seat belt because the belt interfered with Barbie “I-can-suck-a-golf-ball-through-a-hose” Cummings helping them “close their zipper” with her mouth. So the cameras have to go.
Last year, I got hit with a dozen pic-tickets in Iowa.
I didn’t pay them a dime.
A New York company installed them and they tried to collect.
Thing is, they can’t go after your insurance or drivers license in most states.
it is simply a cash grab. Ef’em!
Small Town, they’re probably using game cams, look out. Never drive faster than you can see.
Ohio used to have Mayor’s courts, where the Mayor could legally rape speeders by imposing ridiculous fines for minor offenses. There is a small village a few miles from me (pop 250 on a busy day) that was notorious for this. My niece got a ticket there, and she told me about how the mayor and council were laughing and slapping each other on the back after imposing an incredibly high fine. Then Ohio outlawed the Mayor’s court because of that exact situation, so now criminal little burgs like this have installed speed cameras so they can continue to steal.
I’m a slow driver and I hate them. Not to mention they’re dangerous if you look at the stats, they cause accidents.
What cop would give you a ticket for 4 mph over?
My understanding is; the only officer that can make an arrest for a misdemeanor is the officer that witnessed said offense.
The camera IS NOT an officer of the law, so, if you have more money then your local jurisdiction…..you’re good to go.
Besides, public cameras are a violation of your privacy and should only be used in felony cases.
Just my humble opinion.
Those friggin things piss me off. My 82 year old mother got a ticket in a small TN town and now is terrified to drive in that berg. I told her, even though the options are limited, spend her $$ in every other town except that one. Me? Idda just wiped my hussein with the paperwork and flushed that sucker down the porcelain vortex.
More double standards

from Washington, DC.
Unneutral, and others…you are correct if you are referring to a CRIMINAL violation.
However, camera tickets are CIVIL violations, and are under different rules.
This is the fallacy of these cameras. If you run a red light at one intersection without a camera, you are treated differently than if you do the same violation at an intersection with a camera.
As stated, these are only money generating devices.
