Caroline Glick: On Tuesday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps forcibly commandeered the Maersk Tigris as navigated its way through the Straits of Hormuz. Iran controls the strategic waterway through which 40 percent of seaborne oil and a quarter of seaborne gas transits to global markets.
The Maersk Tigris is flagged to the Marshall Islands. The South Pacific archipelago gained its independence from the US in 1986 after signing a treaty conceding its right to self-defense in exchange for US protection. According to the treaty, the US has “full authority and responsibility for security and defense of the Marshall Islands.”
Given the US’s formal, binding obligation to the Marshall Islands, the Iranian seizure of the ship was in effect an act of war against America. MORE
“…the Iranian seizure of the ship was in effect an act of war against America.”
Let’s face it, the election of Barack HUSSEIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Obama was in effect an act of war against America.
Well maybe if the ship’s cargo contained trannies, 0bama would be interested.
you’ll never go wrong reading a column from CGlick
What really worries me is that Obama is sending our forces into harm’s way, and has likely tied their hands when it comes to defending themselves. Iran has some excellent short range anti-ship missiles, which are perfectly capable of sinking a US Navy destroyer.
Such an act would normally mean war, but I do not trust Obama to (A) prevent such a military action in the first place or (B) properly respond to such an event after it does occur.
Iran backed down when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated because they knew he was not going to fuck around with them like Carter. The Iranians have no fear of Obama and I would not put it past them to actually shoot at and hit one of our ships. The likelyhood of that action lies with the itchiest trigger finger among a large group of Iranian naval commanders.
This confrontation will not end well for someone.
