The Obama administration on Friday imposed a wave of sanctions against members of the North Korean government, amounting to the U.S. government’s first official response to the cyber-attack against Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Despite lingering questions from private security analysts over whether North Korea was responsible for the hack — as the FBI has alleged — the White House described the new sanctions as retaliation against Pyongyang.
“We take seriously North Korea’s attack that aimed to create destructive financial effects on a U.S. company and to threaten artists and other individuals with the goal of restricting their right to free expression,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement. “As the president has said, our response to North Korea’s attack against Sony Pictures Entertainment will be proportional, and will take place at a time and in a manner of our choosing. Today’s actions are the first aspect of our response.”
He said the actions are a response to the country’s “ongoing provocative, destabilizing, and repressive actions and policies,” and particularly the attack on Sony.
I guess Obama’s not buying “the greatest journalist’s” theory. Johnson could be right, although that would only raise his batting average to just over the Mendoza line.
No love lost for the North Koreans but wouldn’t it be just delicious in a few days for it to be proved to be an “inside” hack with no involvement by the North at all. It’s Hollywood so the media would have to cover the story (even though Sony would probably still want the NK angle played) and see Obama take a question or two from Fox about his habit of jumping to a conclusion and then being shown wrong (see Prof. Gates and the Cop).
“And, uh, we, I mean me, uh… Oh Look! A squirrel!”
L’il Kim musta refused Obola’s advances.
Do you suppose President Jarrett knows it wasn’t the Norks but just wants to cause the U.S. more chaos (and more debt)?
bitterclinger – yes. Read below.
scr_north, That’s already been declared. It was an inside job.
Think about it. Why would the NORKs threaten embarrassing personal attacks on a few non-gov people? Doesn’t even sound like what one country would spend a lot of time on to screw with another. THAT would be J.V..
With this new wrinkle from our fear leader, it leads me to this:
We are already “living the future dream” of Fahrenheit 451 (where “firemen” start fires – not put them out).
O’s crisis team only exists to invent crises not prevent them.
Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are incensed…
North Korea Offers to Hold Talks With the South
“Gotta derail that shit; what to do, what to do? Oh, I know! I’ll make an unfounded accusation against the Norrth Koreans and hope the South Koreans back me up.”
