The Democratic Party has always been really bad with finances. I remember reading in 1970 that they still hadn’t paid the phone bill from the 1968 convention.

If by “hipster”, you mean something 50 years dead and leftover from the hippie era, yes, I agree.
I grew up in that hippie era, and as much as I have a semi-nostalgic glow about memories from then, no way in HELL, living or dead, would I be caught near, much less wearing, any of those outfits.
If they can’t generate enough support to pay for a convention maybe they aren’t a real political party.
