  1. My wife was born and lived in the USSR until it’s collapse. She is very bright and was offered a free college education by the Communist Party. Well, not exactly free. Upon graduation, she was to be assigned to a very remote mining town hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle for a minimum of five years. She declined those fantastic terms and paid for her own education by working hard and sacrificing so that she wouldn’t have to freeze to death. She certainly doesn’t have to worry about freezing to death in Southeast Texas, that’s for sure.

  2. I feel that instead of going straight into college after high school, everybody should spend a year or two in a real job that pays a salary. The real world is a good teacher. Most of these kids have been raised on “pie in the sky” and it’s just a mirage. I do not feel sorry for any of these people.

  3. I agree Anonymous. Been saying that for years. Get some real world experience for 3-4 years at least before you go to U then you can see the profs bs coming

  4. Those two didn’t understand what they were getting into, but we are supposed to let college students set policy on everything.

And if the government pays for college 1) most people who currently would get into college would not be getting into college and 2) most of the majors currently available, such as gender studies, women’s studies, etc., would not be available anymore.

And let’s add one trillion to the economy by absorbing one trillion dollars in debt.

  5. Remember, folks, these people who claim that it’s predatory lending because “young people don’t know what they’re getting into” are the same ones who want to let 18 year-olds vote.

  6. I so agree with many of the comments and especially with Bob M. I think 2 years compulsory military service would be beneficial to both men and women.
Our youngest brother was Army crazy all of his life. Was in Canadian Army Cadets and then military service for 2 years. The military paid for his education but he did have to be posted to Veteran’s Affairs on Prince Edward Island for 2 years. He was an accountant for his entire life (sadly, died of brain cancer at the age of 55).

I’ve been to PEI. In the summer it’s a paradise. Green and beautiful. Lobsters are plentiful and inexpensive and it has maybe the best oysters in the world. Charlottetown has lots of places to hang out (or did before covid19) and some good live theater. Not a bad place to be stationed.
